Took Me Back

I had my wedding reception here in 1986 - WOW 38 years ago. It was owned by a different family then, but this new place is great. They added a hotel and looks like a beer garden. The food was excellent and the staff were great. Don’t come here if you’re in a rush because the food is prepared fresh and takes maybe 30 -40 minutes but you won’t be disappointed. Any American that’s traveling through this area should put this place on their list if you’re looking for a traditional brewery experience. Absolutely 5 starts.

The worst schnitzel ever, but great service

The first impression of the car park/outdoor area is very disappointing. The place itself is very quaint and cozy, however. The service was also very friendly, accommodating and deserved a full five stars. However, I was very disappointed with the food. Exchange of side dishes costs 2€ extra. French fries were good. Fried potatoes pretty lax, I've had better ones. But the Viennese-style schnitzel was simply badly made; the worst I have ever eaten. Panade was totally muddy. In contrast to the Braumeisterschnitzel, no meat fibers were visible at the "Wiener". We had the "Wiener" schnitzel 2x at our table and both looked absolutely identical. Probably a TC product made of pressed meat. Accordingly, the eating"enjoyment" was bad. For 18.90 € absolutely overpriced in quality. I pointed out when paying that I did not like the schnitzel - but did not care/no demand from the Obermühle. Customer opinion is obviously not important. Especially since the muddy breadcrumbs have been mentioned in the reviews several times. We used to go to the Obermühle for a Christmas buffet or just like that, but today we were there for the last time. It's a shame.

No excessive luxury but a very pleasant stay.

The first impression when you arrive is not the best. The entire property gives a somewhat neglected impression. That changes when you enter the building. A rustic guest room is very invitingly furnished and lovingly decorated. The beer garden under large trees is also certainly pleasant in summer.
Friendly welcome. The rooms are at the back of the house and are very quiet. They are well equipped. Bathroom with care products. WiFi works perfectly. It is pleasant that the heating was already on in the morning after a cool night.
The food in the restaurant was well prepared. Excellent side salad, very good bread dumplings with wild mushrooms. Plus a large selection of very good beers. Expectations were fully met.
The price for the rooms is OK, as is the breakfast which was served at the table.

Business trip to Oberbiel

Stayed here prior to a business meeting the next day in nearby Oberbiel.
This is a much quieter town than than Wetzlar and is of historic interest if you have the time to look at the castle and half timbered houses.
The hotel is a working brewery with bar and restaurant. Food is very good and large servings - not expensive.
Rooms are large some with kitchen.
Breakfast included in price.
Free wifi in main building but not in rooms.

What a great place

Braunfels is a beautiful town, very friendly people and it is enhanced by this superb guesthouse. Recently modernised to a very high standard each apartment is very well appointed and the food in the Brauhaus is excellent. There is ample parking and being on the edge of town a short walk across the road will take you into the forest where there are miles of forest trails to walk.
If there was to be a down side it is the location, which is at the bottom of the hill and the town with its glorious schloss is at the top. No problems if you are a walker but for some dont eat too much of the food on offer. Highly recommended.

Very good location
