A charming and romantic place with the best food in town.

Whenever I am in Plauen I stay here. The place is like a time travel capsule. It is full of old things and the rooms are romantically furbished with old furniture. The staff is very friendly, the rooms are clean and offer all you need, the internet is stable and wait for it… the food is the best in town - authentically German. If you want the full German experience this place is the one to book.

Not terribly comfortable but It's ok for one night

Outdoor was freezing -2C, you open the door of the room at 6 PM and it feels like 12C inside. Bloody cold. Most of people would run away, i stayed. Overnight could be 18C in the room. Average shower worked. The mattress looked fairly new but was terribly soft. The asian staff was nice and helpful. Now the highlight for those in the now : plasma luxury TV Loewe german diamond ! It was one of first flat TV's when it cost fortune. HD picture was still crystal clear.

Worst food and drinks

So now I have to get rid of something.
I always liked to eat at the trading house, have the best mojito here
You drank.
Now I was back yesterday and disappointed 99 percent.
Coke ordered, we were not asked big or small.
We got big zero-disgusting.
Hefeweiss/Cola was ordered and hefeweiss came without Coke.
After several requests under different conditions it finally became a hefeweizen/Cola with zero-- can't be done at all.
Ordered were 3 Raspberry Mojito, 2 with and 1 without alcohol.
Disaster... frozen raspberry, the sugar was saved to none and the alcohol... there was no one in it.
Order was Rouget fin, this was fine except for the toast, which was rusks.
The shepherd's salads were okay.
Bread was ordered with garlic dip... disgusting the dip. Was 100 percent bought and tasted like chemistry, mayonnaise and vinegar.
It went back completely.
Bruschetta was ordered.. Catastrophe.. the dark baguette was like rusks and not cuttable and you had to be careful not to fall out the teeth. Totally hard, like 15-day-old bread.
Then it was baked with cheese.. where please there is such a bruschetta. I come around in so many countries, bruschetta is a light toasted light bread with fresh tomatoes, garlic and spice. But not overbaked. The
Although we complained, we still had to pay the full price of 79.80 euros. We were offered an espresso or dessert.
Sorry, we should have paid the maximum of the mojitos and the sakates
The old trading house is a complete disaster.
Nieeee again... too bad, the change of ownership should not have happened.
Sincerely,
G.H.

Ambiente top - Essen so lala

We had lunch here today and I have to say I was disappointed.
The ambience is great - but the food was not the same. The portions (sour roast with fried dumplings) very small, it looked as if half a dumpling was cut small. The plate was very clear. The red cabbage didn't work at all - it looked like colored (pale pink) white cabbage, not a typical red cabbage taste and appearance. It's too bad. The lamb's salad with duck liver was good but also much too small for the price.

"Small but comfortable hotel full of charm"

When we decided to visit Plauen we were really unsure what to expect. We didn't know much about the city or for that matter what hotel to consider let alone choose. From my experience, I know that you cannot always rely on what you find on the internet. Especially when you read, "old charm", "romantic rooms ", "very original" or "individually decorated rooms "... Those terms always make me shudder as they can be code for a number of different disasters.
It turned out that the choice was good. Our hotel Altes Handelshaus turned out to be very pleasant and in a city itself was nice too.
Our room was upstairs and some spiral stairs led up to it. Going up and down those stairs was not very comfortable, but it had its charm. Our room was comfortable and contained furniture from bygone era. It was full of charm like the spiral stairs. Having said all this, everything was very clean and tidy and our room was big enough with a high ceiling. Generally speaking our room did not look like a typical hotel room but rather like a room in a normal apartment.
The hotel itself is centrally located in Plauen and it is close to several attractions. If you do not want to have breakfast in the hotel restaurant, just a few steps away there is a bakery where you can have a coffee and a fresh roll or cake. However, I can recommend the hotel restaurant for dinner as we ate there and everything was good.
The hotel also offers parking which is just around the corner of the hotel.
