Two nights before departure – idyllic location, but with some weaknesses

We spent two nights at Gasthof Waldesruh in Saerbeck in July – as a stopover before an early flight from Münster/Osnabrück. The location is really nice: quiet, surrounded by greenery and located directly on bike paths. The airport can also be reached by car in just 4 minutes. Very practical for us: We were able to leave our car in the parking lot for free during the trip – but there is a clear plus.
Arrival & Room (Day 1, Evening) The reception was friendly but the first impression of the room rather sobering: The equipment has clearly come of age, looks old-fashioned and functional, but no longer contemporary. With a summery 28 degrees, there was no form of cooling – there was no fan or air conditioning. It was particularly disappointing that there was no soap or shampoo in the bathroom. Those who don’t have their own toiletries with them are literally left empty-handed – absolutely out of date for a hotel. Plus point are did fly screens in front of the windows.
Dinner in the restaurant (Day 1, Evening) A real bright spot was the dinner in the restaurant. The menu is well balanced and seasonal, the food excellent and the service very friendly and flexible with special requests. Unfortunately, quality and service are also reflected in upscale prices – this does not quite match the simple room standard.
Washing action with hooks (Day 2, Evening) Since we had a longer trip, and still a few days ahead, we asked if it was possible to do laundry. The owner was very helpful and offered us to take care of that for us – a nice gesture that we thankfully accepted. Unfortunately, the drying did not work as hoped: After more than five and a half hours we got the laundry back wet and had to hang it up in the room at midnight – not exactly pleasant in the heat. The good intentions of the owner unfortunately became a stress factor. In a laundromat we would have been much more relaxed and quicker to finish and already before 1am in bed. Planes were good to hear until 1 a.m. Also disturbing was the deduction, which still lags in the bath at 55 decibels (measured) several minutes.
Breakfast & Departure (Day 3, very early) Positively noteworthy is the early breakfast, which was provided especially for us. It was delicious, lovingly arranged and a nice gesture before departure. However, the hotel does not offer its own shuttle or airport pick-up service – the transfer and organization remain entirely with the guest. For a hotel with this orientation and close to the airport, we would have hoped for at least an optional offer.
Conclusion: Gasthof Waldesruh scores with its quiet location in the countryside, the very good restaurant and the possibility to park the car during the trip. However, those who value in-room comfort or expect small services such as soap, air conditioning or airport transfers will have to cut corners here. For a pure overnight stay, the inn is fine – with moderate expectations.

Room was quiet, beds really comfy and had a great night's sleep. Owner friendly and chatty (his English was very good!). We were on a motorcycle and had no issues parking, plenty of space all hard standing and safe. Evening meal was good and hearty, and we could sit outside where there is a really lovely garden. Plenty for breakfast - bread rolls, meats, cheeses and home made jams. We were just stopping off for one night, but overall a great stay!

Great travel-lodge for travellers! Not luxury, but absolut OK and clean! You get what you need for a simple overnight stay! Not to expensive with a little restaurant (tasty food)! But you need a car! It is in the middle of nowhere!

Perfect for an early-morning flight, just 5 minutes by car from the airport. Big free parking place. The pillow was too thin for me, it was the only less perfect thing.

Very good location
