Very Comfortable Hostel/Hotel for any Budget

Fantastic value accommodation with a fun atmosphere. Our room’s balcony offered a fantastic view of the mountains behind Leh. The kitchen provides great food if you find yourself unwilling to venture outside into the cold. The staff were all very helpful and friendly, as were the other guests.

Horrible!!!

Poop on toilet walls, blood on curtains. Paid price of a 3 star hotel and I was refused by the lady receptionist to pick up my 2 big suitcases to the second floor as it's a backpacker hotel. I booked a deluxe room and not a dorm bed. Staircase were narrow, I faced an injury while lifting two suitcases myself to the second floor. No warm water in the bathroom. Blanket was dirty (Infact everything in the building was dirty) Bed was making noise. Very bad aloo parantha in the cafe. After I checked out from Zostel Leh, I spent the remaining 5 days in Leh in a nearby 3 star hotel that costed me the same, but they gave me five star treatment throughout. How do you even function with such amenities? Don't waste your money booking this horrible stay.

Never again!

I took a solo trip to Leh Ladakh and stayed in Zostel Leh which has 4 floors. Most of us checking in need to acclimatize for the first couple of days so we can breathe better in a high altitude area like Leh. But the hostel had no one to help with the luggage. With no lift, you need to carry them yourself n climb how many ever floors which of course leaves you breathless. They should definitely have staff to help, even if it means paying a little extra, so people can make a choice.
The rooftop cafe has a great view, but is also on the 4th floor. The hostel has a 'No food in your room' policy even if you have a private room and if you order it from their own cafe. I had to sleep hungry because I did not want to layer up, walk to the rooftop, sit in the cold n have dinner with so many people in the same room. There's a reason I booked a private room instead of a dorm bed. So if you are an introvert or someone who likes to enjoy meals in the comfort of your room, this place is most certainly NOT for you.
I asked for my room to be cleaned and could not find a couple of my toiletries I had left in the bathroom. Private rooms have no telephone to contact reception for anything. I had a window of 5 mins for shower, before the water went freezing cold again.
No help whatsoever even after informing the reception.
Zostel was a disappointment on so many levels! This was definitely my first and last time staying in zostel.

Budget friendly and Clean place but..

Out stay was not as great as we hoped for. Bathrooms had no water supply and wasn't really convenient at all. Rooms are cozy and comfortable. Cafeteria is fun to stay late and play games. Location wise it's great. You can walk pretty everywhere.

Ok, but could have been so much more

The place is ok for a reasonably priced option to crash for a night. But I was underwhelmed by the vibe and people. Given the positioning as a hostel, I would expect there to be more opportunities to create group plans, meet interesting people, participate in evening events (musical performances, book readings, listen to travel stories, hear radical ideas on climate change/capitalism/whatever, ...). The crowd were also not so much backpackers, adventurers, artists, poets and mavericks from around the world (though there may have been one or two of those), but mostly yuppies from Indian metros pretending to be cool.
