RED FLAG FOR TRAVELERS: Think Twice Before Paying Upfront to Somnath Gateway Hotel Through Goibibo
I am writing this review even before my actual booking dates because I want to warn future travelers about my disappointing experience with Somnath Gateway Hotel and Goibibo.
My family had planned a special pilgrimage to Somnath and Dwarka, our first visit to Gujarat. We booked Somnath Gateway Hotel through Goibibo and paid the full amount in advance (around ₹8,000).
Just three days before our journey, both my child and I fell seriously ill with high fever and severe throat infection due to a weather disturbance. Our trip involved long AC train journeys and multiple train changes. Taking a sick child on such a journey was simply not possible, so with a very heavy heart we cancelled the entire trip.
This is where the real disappointment started.
I immediately contacted Somnath Gateway Hotel and explained the medical emergency. I was not demanding a full refund. I requested either a partial refund or an extension of the booking to a future date.
However, neither option was meaningfully considered.
The most troubling part was that Goibibo informed me that the cancellation request was not approved by the hotel. Since Goibibo stated that exceptions depended on hotel approval, the final decision rested with Somnath Gateway Hotel.
We even explained that we still intended to visit Somnath in the future. We only needed the booking shifted by a few months because my child has board examinations and family travel must be planned during school holidays. We were told that even an extension, if considered, would only be for a week or two—something completely impractical for families travelling from other states with train reservations planned months in advance.
Somnath Gateway Hotel repeatedly referred to "official policy" but showed no flexibility for a genuine medical emergency.
The final outcome was simple:
• No stay.
• No room used.
• No hotel services received.
• No practical extension.
• No refund.
• Complete loss of the booking amount.
What concerns me most is not the existence of a cancellation policy, but how it was applied. Policies are meant to protect businesses from abuse, but they should also allow room for genuine emergencies. In our case, it felt as though the policy mattered more than the customer.
If flexibility and empathy are absent before check-in during a genuine medical emergency, travelers should seriously consider what level of customer care they can expect after their money has already been collected.
I cannot comment on the rooms, food, cleanliness, or facilities of Somnath Gateway Hotel, because despite paying in full, I never had the opportunity to use any of them.
What I can comment on is the lack of flexibility, lack of empathy, and lack of practical solutions offered during a genuine family emergency.
My advice to future travelers: read every word of the cancellation policy carefully before booking Somnath Gateway Hotel through Goibibo. Do not assume that a medical emergency, cancelled travel plans, or family circumstances will automatically be considered.
For my family, this was an expensive lesson and a deeply disappointing start to what was supposed to be a memorable pilgrimage.

Bathroom wasn’t clean, bathroom roof was leaking and had mold, breakfast was good and staff in dining room were great.
