Beautiful hotel, good location

We really liked this hotel. The room was very spacious and the grounds were beautiful and quiet. You would never have thought you were right in town.
We paid a little extra for a lake view room. There was an air conditioning unit that worked well. The bed was comfortable.
Great proximity to local restaurants, we ate all over. We ate breakfast at the hotel twice and appreciated the included orange juice and liked the pancakes. The hotel provided one bottle of water per day that we used for tooth brushing. There was a little convenience store just steps away where we bought drinks.
Easy walk to the dock to take the lanchas to other towns. It seems like the going price is q25 per person. Buy one way tickets - if you buy round trip you’ll have to wait for a boat from that particular company to come back. We really liked San Juan to buy artisan crafts. If you get sea sick the boats were just awful, I took Zofran to get through it.
Public service announcement that the lake water is contaminated. Always use bottled water to brush your teeth, don’t drink the tap water even at restaurants, don’t eat raw vegetables, and don’t swim in the lake. We did all this and still got massively sick our last night. Bring travel antibiotics, Imodium, etc.

Hotel grounds are spacious, well maintained, and right by Lake Atitlán, but our room was too dark for me.

We spent 2 nights at Hotel Posada de Don Rodrigo in late April. The location is great, just a quick walk down to Lake Atitlán. The hotel grounds are beautifully maintained, with a nice courtyard with a fountain, a covered walkway lined with hammocks, a childrens' play area, and open grassy area. Our room was spacious and quiet, but it was dark, and didn't feel cozy, and for that reason alone I would not stay here again. Breakfast came with our room, and the hotel restaurant was on the fancier side (you order from a menu, and our selections were brought with covered lids on the plate), but I didn't think the breakfast was anything special. The wait staff however, were super nice. The hotel looks out over the lake, but the views are partly obscured from the giant tube slide at the pool, vegetation and flags. Just across the street from the hotel is another restaurant, and other businesses. The hotel has a little archeological museum, which they gave us free admission to. The museum was interesting and didn't take much time to go through.
(PS We created our trip, picking what we wanted to do, then booked our trip through Guatemalan Adventure (travel company). Guatemalan Adventure selected our lodging and made all the reservations. If I were to return to Guatemala, I don't think I would stay in Panajachel.)

Super friendly staff and gorgeous views of the lake and the volcanoes from our room! It was not the right weather to try the water slide but that would be ideal for kids!

room was spotless. Location was superb. Staff was so friendly. A few added touches like additional bedside reading lamps would be helpful.
