Unforgettable Time at the Omni Hotel, New Haven!

My husband and I are inveterate travelers and have stayed at many hotels over the years, both domestically and internationally, and, hands down, we have never felt more appreciated or more well-treated as guests as we did at the Omni Hotel in New Haven, CT. We have stayed at the Omni twice this summer to take advantage of Yale's excellent (and free) museums, and both visits were particularly memorable because of the world-class staff at the Omni. I would be remiss not to mention Kevin M. who greeted us at the front desk and oversaw every detail of our stay to make sure we were enjoying every minute of it. He was an absolute gem: professional, competent, courteous. He treated us with great warmth, which to me and my husband, makes all the difference in the quality of a hotel stay --- and it's the reason we will be returning to Omni, New Haven. Let me add, that every single staff member we met had the same ethos as Kevin: Darius (one of the managers); Haley (a worker at the lobby coffee shop); Julian (who assisted us with luggage); Eugene (who helped us with transportation info); the staff at John Davenport's, the superb restaurant on the 19th floor with panoramic city and campus views. There are too many staff members to name, but kudos to the whole Omni Team and to those who hired such first-rate employees. What a pleasure, what a great time we had. Thank you from the heart to all of you who made it great!

Avoid this hotel if you desire sleep

I seriously question how there can be any positive reviews for the Omni New Haven. Our stay was disappointing in every way. First, I booked and was charged for a "Yale" view which was a view of parking garages and unsightly AC units. Second, the location is absolutely horrible. Despite being on the 18th floor, I was unable to sleep due to motorcycles racing and traffic noise louder than Times Square in NYC. Absolutely no soundproofing on windows, and it was impossible to sleep. The area is also unsafe!! There were gang activities one night, and a large homeless population all around the hotel. Very unsafe. Also, the door into the hotel from the underground parking garage was not secure! People were holding it open for large rowdy groups to enter. Third, the age and condition of the room was unacceptable for $400 a night!! Banged up, broken furniture, filthy dirty AC vents, cheap bedding and pillows, just so dated. I can't believe the condition of the rooms. Also, the mini fridge made a loud humming noise all night that just added to the motorcycle noise. Avoid this hotel. I can't believe this is part of Omni brand.

2 hours waiting to access the Omni parking garage

Because of some stupid event on the New Haven green, Temple Street was completely blocked off so I had to wait for 2 hours before I could access the Omni parking garage. Omni seemed unaware or unconcerned that this caused considerable inconvenience for their patrons. They couldn't have made some arrangement with the cops to allow patrons to access the Omni parking garage? Apparently, this was not important enough. Never going back there again.

We found the staff to be excellent but the place is old. Our hotel sink and toilet were about 1 foot off the ground. Serious was this built for little people or what.
The dining was on the top floor which had nice view but was sit down only and very expensive. Coffee was not good.
Again the people were excellent but the vibe was old and dated.
