Carpet in room was wet. The room smelled musty, the mini fridge didn't cool my beverages and when I tried turning on the heat it smelled like it was going to start a fire.

noise, smoking allowed everywhere, gunshots, drug addicts in the pkg lot, stayed 7 nights, beds made/changed once. worst red roof inn I've ever stayed in

Musty-smelling room; early morning live music in parking lot
We stayed here for one night while attending the Drum Corps show. The receptionist was friendly and checked us in in a timely manner. When we opened the door to our room, we were met with a wall of odor - a mix of animal urine, smoke, and mildew/mold. It was pretty bad, but after a few minutes we became accustomed to it. It wasn't terrible for us, but anyone with asthma or related breathing issues should be aware.
The room was clean and tidy, but little details were annoying - the bathroom door was not properly aligned so it didn't close all the way; the lighting in the bathroom was a weird daylight hue and dim; there was no fan in the bathroom.
At 2:45 am we were awakened by some fellow guests having a party, including live music, in the parking lot not far from our room. I called the front desk, who said the police had been notified. I called the police nonemergency number myself, and the noise stopped within 30 minutes and did not start again. It was not a great way to spend the night.
We did not use the pool so I cannot comment on that.
The price was right, but in hindsight not worth the savings. I would not stay here again unless there was some reassurance about the indoor air quality being improved.

Perfect for the purpose. Close to - walking distance bars and restaurants. Excellent price. !! Good if attending sporting events at NIU. Close to all game areas. Ample parking. It just was great. Staff made sure as a semi handicapped person I had a ground floor room. Overnight girl was so polite and helpful. I wish all motels had people like her!
