My Traveler's Rest Experience

Great experience and place to stay. I liked that the Hotel was away from the hustle and bustle of the main part of Pittsburgh. Still plenty to do in this area...Easy check, correspondence and communication was good and timely. My room and the bathroom was very clean. Mattress a tad bit on the hard side and didnt sleep super well, but hey...you can't have everything. An interesting gathering space for breakfast and an eclectic group of awesome people were staying at the same time as me. This led to some good conversations and get to know you opportunities. Loved that part of the experience. Breakfast was also good. If you're a coffeaseur, the coffee was fabulous. I will stay again, when back in the 'Burgh!

Small-town charm in Pittsburgh

The cutest, quaintest small hotel in Pitt! Beautifully kept, clean and with great character. Managers were respectful and welcoming at the same time. Perfect small-town charm in the city.

Perfect!

I hesitate to be effusive because I want to be able to book at this gem in the future. We absolutely loved this quaint, cozy, comfortable spot! We were preparing to bike the GAP and this was the perfect starting point. They have an ample garage for lots of bikes, w tools and locks. The hotel is right on the 3 Rivers Trail which connects to the GAP. The owners Paul & Mary Beth are delightful and will regale you with the grand history of the place. It was a perfect spot for our family!! Will definitely return!!

Travelers Rest IS NOT your traditional hotel. If you want the lavish amenities of a pool, gym, office, or a TV, this is not for you.
If you're adventurous, plan on spending days out, or exploring all that Pittsburgh has to offer, Travelers Rest IS for you.
Travelers Rest is a place that you can enjoy the common area, make new friends, sleep and restart the next day.
Room and Bathroom were clean, management is beyond helpful.
Free breakfast and only public street parking.

Excellent lodging!

My wife and I stayed at Traveler’s Rest (Pittsburgh) for a total of six nights, three at the start of two week bike trip on the C&O Canal/GAP trail, and three at the end of the ride. TR is excellent for cyclists because they have a big garage for storing your bike and working on your bike (they have lots of tools and a bike stand or two). In my case they agreed to store our two bike cases for the duration of our bike tour, so that we could return and disassemble our bikes for our return flight. The property is located on the South Side neighborhood, which was very safe in our experience, even late at night after returning from dinner and hanging out. Lots of restaurants within walking distance, all sorts of cuisines. Tons of coffee shops and bars nearby also. Convenient to downtown Pittsburgh via the pubic bus ($2.75 per ride or get a day pass for $2.75 to cover unlimited rides) or walking (via the Smithfield Bridge over the Monongahela River). The owners/hosts are super-accommodating and friendly. The place feels like a hybrid of bed-and-breakfast and a family hostel. Big common room for relaxing and well-equipped kitchen with lots of food in the pantry and in the refrigerator. This made a excellent make-it-yourself self-serve breakfasts, and snacks. Our private room had a private bathroom assigned to it, secured with a key code. The bathroom was just a few steps from our spacious, comfortable bedroom, which also had great AC and a floor fan. TR has lots of books and maps for guests to reference. The check-in and check-out were easy. The hosts very helpful with dining and sightseeing tips, and guidance on local bike paths, etc. The hosts are long-time world travelers who really know what adventurous travelers need for lodging. I can’t recommend TR highly enough, especially if you are on a bike tour.
