Excellent location and value

This property is within walking distance of the state Capitol, the Cathedral and light rail. It is an older building that has nice updates. I was quite comfortable. The price could not be beat, especially given the included breakfast. If the location works for you, consider it. As of Aug 2026 there is construction that is a bit in the way, but summer in MN means you will run into construction no matter where you go.

Uncomfortable Stay, Poor Maintenance, and Disappointing Service

Where do I begin? I arrived on Sunday with plans of staying the entire week for work. I checked into a suite and immediately noticed that the room was quite warm. Even after lowering the thermostat to 60 degrees, the room never cooled properly. I mentioned the issue to the front desk the following morning and asked about the possibility of changing rooms. The employee said he would speak with the manager and asked me to provide my phone number and email so someone could follow up. Unfortunately, no one ever contacted me, nor did he inform the 2nd shift front desk staff of my issue. I think he never did anything to try to resolve my issue - probably threw away my phone number and email. Later that afternoon, I called the front desk and spoke with a different employee who was excellent. She quickly moved me to a standard room, which was noticeably cooler at first. However, the temperature gradually increased over the next two nights, becoming increasingly uncomfortable.
When I returned to the hotel on the evening of 7/16, I noticed several guests carrying fans to their rooms. They informed me that the air conditioning system was down and might not be repaired until the following day. My room felt close to 85 degrees, making it impossible to get a comfortable night's sleep. At that point, I checked out and moved to another hotel. When I was leaving, I noticed the other guests were propping open their doors just to get air into their rooms. Beyond the air conditioning issues, there were several other concerns. Some of the hallways smelled of stale cigarette smoke, and the first floor where I stayed for one night, it had a faint marijuana odor. One early morning, I attempted to get an item from breakfast buffet (I needed some cream cheese) around 6:15 a.m., shortly before breakfast service opened at 6:30 a.m. The front desk employee on duty was extremely rude and unwilling to help in any way, resulting in one of the least professional customer service interactions I've experienced at a hotel. All he had to do was walk into the kitchen and ask the person that was prepping breakfast for a little cream cheese. But instead, he chose to be a jerk and rudely said there is nothing he can do. The overall condition of the property was also disappointing. The carpets in the rooms felt dirty and sticky, the windows were visibly filthy, and the curtains either do not open during the day nor close all the way at night. So glad to leave this place!

The rooms had no air conditioning in the middle of 95 degree heatwave. Also the pool was closed so no escaping the heat.

Hotel staff failed to mention that their air conditioning has not been working for 3 weeks. We were their for an outdoor music festival and it was 100F outside. You can imagine our dismay when we finally got back tot he hotel at 11pm and the air was not working. It was still 91F at 11pm so there was no reason to open any windows. It was absolutely miserable. We left before 6am and when we spoke to the front desk person They said they have been having issues for weeks and there was nothing he could do.

No A/C, bad Staff Experience

I was very disappointed with our stay. Booked the room for myself, my husband and 2 young children. We were looking forward to using the pool during our stay but were told at check in that the pool would be down for maintenance. We talked to multiple staff during our two-night stay, and no one was able to tell us when the maintenance work would be completed. The pool never opened back up during our stay. We also did not witness any actual work being done to or around the pool when we were there. On top of not being able to use the pool, the A/C was not working at the hotel. There was no mention of any A/C issues at check-in, but we got to our room, and we realized that the A/C did not seem to be working (and the TV in that room was not working). We talked to the front desk, and they had us move rooms. Again, no mention that there were ongoing A/C issues throughout the building. They moved us from the second floor up to the seventh floor. We thought it was cool air coming out of the vent, but it never cooled the room down. We had a horrible night’s sleep with the room getting hotter throughout the night with little to no air flow. Again, we talked to the front desk and they still did not seem to know what was going on and seemed unwilling to provide options for us. We left for the day and came back in the afternoon, and our room had reached 82 degrees. At this point there was finally a sign at the front desk notifying patrons that the building was having issues with the HVAC system. I had a request again to be get a new room, they tried to give us another room on the seventh floor, but I requested to be moved to a lower room to try to find a cooler room. They did provide us with fans and said the A/C should be turning back on sometime in the evening. The fan did help us sleep better, but the A/C never turned on during our stay. Overall, the stay was not as we expected. The pool was inaccessible and the A/C was not functioning properly. The most disappointing experience was that the staff either did not know what was going on and saying things to make people feel better or they were lying and giving us information that was not true.
