A good stay.

We travelled as a family of four, for a short break away. When we arrived, we were promptly greeted, given our all-inclusive wrist bands as soon as we began checking in, and were also greeted with a nice, small welcome drink.
Our bags were collected by staff, and we were shown to our rooms. I hadn't been to Crete before, so was surprised at how hilly and steep the hotel was. This wasn't too much of an issue however, as there is a regular cart that does a loop every 10mins or so.
Our rooms were very clean and tidy. You could say that they were slightly dated and worn in places, but that's to be expected of most hotels. In the rooms, were a couple of bottles of water, and a small dish or two of greek treats!...This made for a very nice welcome.
The hotel pool was lovely, and much warmer than the indoor pool! The cabanas around the pool were a nice touch, but difficult to get, and despite signs were often reserved early in the morning. The pool bar is well stocked, and has plenty of seating. We didn't eat at the Italian just above, but it did look very nice.
The snack bar near the pool was great, and very popular. They served great gyros, fries and pizzas, along with a selection of ice creams and fresh fruit.
We much preferred this pool and snack bar compared to the one down by the beach.
One thing that did bother us however about the hotel, was in fact the beach...I was very shocked to learn that, despite the hotel claiming 5* and being all-inclusive, you still had to pay 15euros, per day!!!! for a sunbed and umbrella...as a result, we spent no time at the beach, which was a great shame!
The selection of food in the main restaurant for each meal was plentiful, it was nothing spectacular, but was nice.
Outside of the hotel, there isn't really much to do, apart from a few restaurants and small shops - a taxi into the old town can be arranged at reception and only costs 20euros each way.
Overall, we had a lovely stay, and I wouldn't hesitate to book Galini Sea View again.

Hotel split across 2 locations!

Its not clear from the hotel pictures or booking information that there is another part of the hotel across the road from the main hotel. When we arrived we had to climb a very large hill (your in crete so expect hills), however there are golf carts which will pick you up and take you up, which are every 10 mins or so, and really helpful. We checked in and was then taken away from the main hotel to across the street into smaller building which is right on the beach. There is no restaurent here, apart from a pool bar which is small, and the pool there is very small, and had 2 sun loungers, its nothing like the pictures on the website. To get to the main hotel you have to walk over the bridge, up the hill, wait for a golf cart to get to the main hotel, if you have to go back to your room for anything, it would take you at least 15 mins. My room didnt have a working TV there, or any toilet paper, and outside my room was the main bin area, so it did smell quite bad. I wasnt happy with my room as the walk was way too far, and getting a sun bed in the main hotel would have been near impossible, I asked to be moved, and I was, the guest manager was great and he did move us into a much nicer room in the main hotel which was bigger, and I wasnt charged any more for it. The buffet food is what you expect, some days better than others, but never awful. the snack bar was by far the best, great freshly cooked gyros, fries and pizza all day. Location is very good, whilst there arent many shops, you can get the bus to chania very close to the hotel, and super easy to get to. Overall the hotel was nice, but its not 5 star. It shoudl be alot cleaer that you may not be in the hotel itself, as if I had known that I would not have booked this, thankfully I was able to be moved, but if I hadnt been this would have a very different holiday and review.

A fantastic holiday for 11.

Thoroughly enjoyed the whole holiday.
I'll start out by saying I do understand some of the worse reviews on here but it all comes down to rooms and the fact they claim 5 star. We were a party of 11 with 3 different room types. 1 sea view (which was our rooms 5128) 3 side sea view and 1 garden. We arrived late Monday 13th July. Our sea view was one of the newer rooms and was perfection albeit the balcony was smaller than expected. The 3 side sea views were wrong, they had been placed in what we nicknamed the slum as they're old with no view and far away from the facilities. The receptionist admitted straight away these were not the rooms we booked but due to how late we arrived nothing could be done until the next day which understandable however very annoying. When you arrive you want to unpack and be ready for the next day but that didn't happen. As our room was correct we were not present when the party's who's rooms were incorrect had the conversation with the manager however they did say they were not met with apologies or an attitude to correct the wrong willingly and it did get heated. Thankfully, they did offer them multiple rooms to look at but if they didn't like those rooms the manager said he didn't care.
The rooms offered were far better and the correct room type and they moved in however not until after 2pm check in time, which again rather annoying.
The garden room was correct but this particular one again was far away from the main hotel facilities but it was close to the beach bar and the shops.
The food is not samey its the same with slight variations. Souvlaki available everyday chicken at lunch and pork in the evening for example. I would advise taking extra euros for meals out as it gets boring fast. Plain pasta, chips and pitta bread available for lunch and dinner everyday if you do struggle. The pasta also had 2 sauces available. The food is not hot, and by the time you get your drinks if you do wait it is cold. However, there are filtered bottles of water available in the fridges at every meal time.
The breakfast is standard, nothing to shout about but plenty of choice to have a decent meal. The coffee is delicious though. My main complaint is how quick things ran out, coffee cups, spoons etc. Its a massive hotel with what felt like 20 sets of each available. This mainly happened in the morning. We only did lunch 2 or 3 times but again it felt the same each time we went.
It is NOT a 5 star hotel, that is the underlying issue. Everyone who has ever stayed in a 5 star will say the same thing. You do not pay for a safe in a 5 star hotel, there is enough cutlery and cups for everyone at the same time if needed in a 5 star hotel. Its the little things like that which makes paying the tourist tax for a 5 star hotel sting and gives people the negative view. If they were honest and claimed 4 star I genuinely think the reviews would be much more positive and give the hotel breathing room.
As for our stay, we had a blast. The beach bar is fantastic we are not stay by the pool people but to have the pool, bar, snacks and beach all in one area is perfect for a relaxed vibe with the shops just a stones throw. The toilets for a beach bar were surprisingly clean with multiple visits by the cleaners during our stay which is another great point about this hotel. The maids, cleaners and maintenance people deserve all the praise. They actually clean your rooms everyday, fresh towels, floors brushed and mopped etc. We had a few mornings leaving late and if we were not ready they would come back to clean the room which in all the hotels we've stayed in if you miss your slot that's it your room is not done until the next day so this was greatly appreciated. We also on a few occasions left valuables out on show and had 0 issues which is always a massive paranoid thought but not with this hotel.
The main pool area is clean, sunbeds are limited but comfortable with some shaded and some in full sun. Unfortunately, the sun beds do get reserved so if you're not up early especially a large group likes ours you weren't getting one. However there was always room in the shaded pool bar.
We did not use the indoor pool or kids splash park but they appeared clean and in good working order.
The lifts are ropey to say the least, with multiple showing out of order. So if you're banking on the lifts working to get around I wouldn't place all your money on it
Most of the staff are extremely friendly with a shout out to the beach bar staff in particular, they made our time that much more special taking time to get to know us and spend time when they had the chance including playing our games in the pool. Steffan and Entri in particular. Habibi the golf cart driver is honestly a massive credit to this hotel, everyone knows him and hopes he comes to collect you in the cart. The carts are another positive, the hills are steep and without the carts it would be too much especially in the July sun. Your transfer is at the bottom but you do get dropped off and picked up by the hotel in the carts.
Now we know the room set ups we probably are going to book for next year as even though it isn't 5 star its one of the cheapest holidays we've ever had including tourist tax. I hope this review gives the hotel some justice as we did have a brilliant stay.

Galini Sea View Hotel, Agia Marina, Crete

As a solo traveller who has stayed in many hotels, I don’t believe this is a true 5-star hotel. The food was repetitive, the service was disappointing, and the waiting staff could be more helpful. I also found the reception staff inconsistent, with some guests receiving better treatment than others.
The location is excellent, close to the beach with great excursions. However, the pool was always busy and not very clean, and the steep hill to reception can be difficult, although the buggy service helps if you’re willing to wait.
Crete is beautiful, but unfortunately this hotel did not meet my expectations of a 5-star stay.

Dear Kamyb,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your stay with us.
While we appreciate every review, we are quite disappointed to read your comments, especially regarding our service. Hospitality and taking care of our guests are our highest priorities, and we strive every day to provide attentive and professional service to everyone without exception.
We are also surprised by your remark regarding the buggy service. The buggy operates continuously throughout the day, with an average waiting time of only 2–3 minutes, making it a convenient option for guests who prefer not to walk up the hill.
Regarding the food, cleanliness, and other aspects of your stay, we are sorry that these did not meet your personal expectations. We continuously monitor all of our services and value constructive feedback that helps us improve.
We are pleased that you enjoyed the location of our hotel and the beauty of Crete, and we thank you once again for sharing your experience.
Kind regards,
The Hotel Management Team
