Hotel Tjampuhan: In the Valley of the Gods on the Island of the Gods. Big Love.

I love this hotel; it’s my go-to place in Ubud. Hotel Tjampuhan was built as a Royal guesthouse in 1928, so the traditional Balinese architecture is impressive, warm and inviting. The lush grounds leading down to the river, add tranquility. The Spa, located in a stone cavern, has treatment rooms overlooking the jungle and river. I had the best Balinese massage at the hotel spa. Most importantly, the people who work at the Hotel are like one, big family. It’s their combined efforts and friendliness that makes Hotel Tjampuhan special and keeps pulling me back year after year.
There is always someone sweeping; adding flowers to all sorts of statues and paths; making offerings to the Gods; fixing things and adding decorative touches to guest rooms: one day I had a swan sitting on a lake decorating my bed (made entirely from hibiscus flowers, rose petals and towels)! It’s the attention to detail and care shown to all guests, that’s impressive.
This visit, I stayed 10 nights in the totally delightful Tjampuhan Suite: a room with plenty of space; a lovely, big balcony, and a newly renovated bathroom. It felt luxurious. The hotel is only a 15-minute walk to the Ubud Palace. Personally, I’m more interested in exploring the area near the hotel rather than the crush of the tourists downtown. There’s plenty of eats, shops, walks and galleries within easy walking distance from the hotel, while the hip village of Penestanan sits on a ridge overlooking the Hotel.
Be mindful that Hotel Tjampuhan is built down the side of a valley, so there are a lot of stairs. If you have mobility issues, this could be challenging. I definitely felt much fitter after tackling hundred of steps a day, as my suite was closer to the river than street level.
Thank you I Wayan Astra for overseeing a brilliant team and going that extra mile for me. Arya, Astawa, Froggie: you all made me feel so welcome! To the other lovely staff whose faces I see in my mind but I forgot to write down your names…I’ll see you next visit!

Beautiful but noisy

Very beautiful hotel. Very exotic.
The decor is nice.
The bathrooms are old and need to be redone.
The bad point is the noise. Hotel on the side of the road and in a valley: you must not be sensitive to sleep!
Ask for a "quiet" room . That's borderline (a little).

Amazing hotel

It's not just a hotel - it's a corner of central Ubud with a century-old history, lost among the tropical greenery. The perfect combination of pristine nature, authentic culture and impeccable service.
Location beyond all praise: hotel near the jungle and river. Waking up to birdsong and watching the morning mist rush down the canopy is a separate pleasure. At the same time, the center of Ubud is literally 5-10 minutes on foot, but when you return to the hotel, you feel completely disconnected from the city bustle. There are many beautiful cafes nearby, opposite - an ancient temple.
The rooms after the renovation, I had no complaints. Just consider the high humidity in the rooms. I was given a wonderful house with a beautiful view, I was very pleased.
Separately I want to say about the service - warm and caring. Every little detail is thought out to detail, you feel attention to the guests. Excellent staff - ready to help any minute, never fading welcome. They don't make you feel like a tourist, they make you feel like a guest.
And, of course, the nature around you is centuries-old banyans, river churning and a riot of colours - what you need for a complete reset.
And I also want to thank the grandson of a Kadek hotel employee for organizing a wonderful tour of the Sangeh Monkey Forest. Nice responsible guy, I recommend for the tour. Ask him how to contact reception.
Hotel Tjampuhan strongly recommend that those who love nature immerse themselves in history.

The best base for Ubud

Tjampuhan is a great hotel with a rich history, a beautiful garden and two swimming pools to unwind. Compliment to the employees for their always friendly and welcoming attitude.
The hotel is almost a hundred years old and was once the king's guesthouse. Special is the house that artist Walter Spies was allowed to build in the garden overlooking the temple on the other side of the river.
The rooms are spacious, the beds good and the amenities in the room are excellent. Breakfast is varied and much is possible. In short, the best base for Ubud.

Hotel Tjampuhan a treasure in Ubud

Hotel Tjampuhan instantly makes you feel at home. The staff we met while we were staying were always pleased to see us and genuinely wanted to hear about where we were from, what we had done in Bali, how our stay and experiences were. Our room was clean and beds comfortable to enjoy a restful stay. We were amazed with the history of the hotel. The setting is peaceful and has a beauty and sense of calm about it.
Services were amazing. We indulged in a massage and beauty treatments. The setting for this makes relaxation easy, amongst nature, listening to the birdsong and river below.
The Hotel is a great location to easily walk to main center for market shopping and enjoy local cafes.
Staff - from management, who made a point to chat with us regularly amd ensure we were happy with how our stay was going, to the many staff that make Hotel Tjampuhan run effortlessly, we thank you for making our stay memorable, comfortable and we will be eager to return to see you all again.
While staying we had a wonderful driver Nandito who shared his local knowledge of the area and insightful chats about Balinese culture. I would highly recommend as a guide/driver while in Ubud. We enjoyed his company and learnings.
Hotel Tjampuhan encompasses so many wonderful attributes that make it the perfect holiday home away from home.
