My stay would probably been better if I wasn’t solo at this place.
My plunge pool room was directly across the main area so it never felt truly private with ppl coming and going and the staff maintaining the grounds. I never used the plunge pool since the ocean was so close and just felt exposed.
The beach front has a lovely powdery beach. Unfortunately, the guests are gross with their trash. I found nappy diapers between the lounge chairs. I asked for a garbage bag one day just to pick up stuff on the beach and in the water. I was gobsmacked when a young English family with a young child, who watched me collect trash for awhile, threw a coke can in the ocean. The family did zero as I collected it and I spoke to the child. I never really noticed any staff cleaning the beach area around the chairs.
Anyway, no one wants to sit on a dirty beach.
The underwater statues are located directly from this beach. I suggest going early like 7am to avoid the endless snorkel boats.
The snorkeling is just eh here. I suggest starting at Divine Divers and drifting down to Bask. The coral is better up that way.
My room was nice, small but sufficient.
There was a light in the closet that drove me crazy. The light was bright when you opened it but it never shut off completely when you closed it. That light drove me crazy trying to sleep. They give you a pillow choice to
order. I had two massages from
the same lady, ugh I can’t remember her name but it was the best massages on my entire Indonesia vacation. They always did them in my room so I guess they don’t have a dedicated spa. The food was good but overpriced. I did like the selection.
What I didn’t like was how difficult it was to get a glass of water with a meal! They did it but they all seemed reluctant. They give you 4 glass bottles in your room for the day. Wasn’t sure if I was supposed to drag these bottles to brekkie/dinner? That’s probably my biggest gripe is the lack of water refill stations. Water stations were offered ar every hotel I stayed at on the Gili islands and across Indonesia. Being told I have to pay for extra water is absurd.
The staff were lovely, as were all the Indonesian’s I met along the way.

4.5 stars with some minor suggestions to take it to 5
The hotel grounds are stunning, beautifully manicured with staff working around the clock to keep everything looking perfect.
The manager Manuel is very kind and knowledgeable about the island, and every staff members I interacted with was amazing. Griffin, Yogi, Will, Samsui, memet, were all fantastic servers, in fact every staff member should be commended for how professional and efficient they were. I had 2 massages from Annie, she was great, they set up right in your room. The hotel room is lovely, the bed is comfortable and spacious with the pool and balcony area lovely. The food is amazing, I ate 5 breakfast and 5 lunches here and it was all phenomenal. Gym was great, it’s refreshing to see a place with a squat rack.
I have a few recommendations for consideration to make this a truly 5 star experience.
1) improved amenities. There is very basic drink facilities in the room- Nescafé and tea, with creamer packets. A small real milk would be a great addition, and some more premium beverage offerings. The room was about $600 AUD a night and although that is not expensive for Australia, it’s pricey for Indonesia, so I would have expected the coffee and tea situation to be better.
2) bath robe would be great addition
3) water should be complimentary and refilled as often as needed. 4x 330 bottles of water are given per room per day, which for 2 adults in a country where it’s recommended to brush teeth with bottled water is not enough. Water is very expensive, at the hotel $5 AUD or $8 for a 750ml. I did ask for a refill once and was advised I had my allocation and it would be at a cost. In the end they did give me more water complimentary, but I was told I had to pay initially. As many bottles as required in a hot country should be a given at a 5 star hotel.
4) having a dedicated smoking section, the fact that everyone was smoking in all the main sections bothered me, at the restaurant, by the pool, in the pool.. maybe its because in Australia you can’t really smoke anywhere but all the cigarette smoke especially when I was eating made me feel sick.
Overall I had a wonderful stay at Bask, and would recommend it to anyone, there are just a few improvements that take this to be an excellent experience that hopefully management will consider for future. Thanks
