Good value for money

I stayed here for five days and overall had a really good experience. The hotel has a relaxed atmosphere and the rooms are comfortable. I stayed in the Superior Room and the air conditioning worked very well, which was a big plus considering the heat.
Breakfast is simple but nice, with three options such as pancakes with banana and honey, or eggs and hummus on toast. Breakfast starts at 7am till 10AM which I liked because it gives you enough time to eat before heading out for tours or activities.
One thing I really appreciated was the unlimited drinking water available. Because of the heat, having filtered water to refill a reusable bottle is a huge advantage. They also sell different drinks like electrolytes, and sodas.
They offer yoga classes as well Mon to Fri and the yoga teacher was really lovely. It was the perfect way to end a busy day.The reception staff were always helpful and responded quickly if I had questions. The location is also very good — you can easily walk or cycle to bars, restaurants, and other places in town.
It wasn’t the most social hostel I’ve stayed in, but it still had a nice and relaxed atmosphere. One thing to note is that alcohol isn’t allowed in the premises or sold onsite, which I think it should be made very clear on any booking site.
The only small improvement I would suggest is taking a bit more care of the garden, clearing it more regularly and taking good care of the plants so it would look as pristine as the website.
There is an ATM in the kitchen area if you need cash.
Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend it.

Christmas.2025

Travelling with a friend we stayed in a superior double private room with private bathroom and then moved to a private double room with shared bathroom. Both rooms had comfy beds and were relatively clean overall. Hilariously our first room had an ancient bath that looked like a spa bath, with a shower. We did not use it other than the shower which did the job.It also had AC and a fan. Sadly the mosquito nets in the windows were not sealed so we couldnt have the windows open. Our second room had cute fairy lights round it and a fan which was all we needed. In fact it was chilly over night and having a blanket on hand would have been helpful, granted we didn't ask for one. Shared bathrooms were clean enough although flip flops are a must. There's a kitchenette area with basic utensils so you can make your own food and breakfast was included which was pancakes or scrambled eggs and toast. The staff were all lovely and super helpful with advice and the hostel was well located within walking distance of bars and places to eat.

Poor quality hostel

This hostel is by far the worst we have been to.
We took the "suite" to have a room with a minimum of comfort.
First day, water cut all day...
Beyond the super sloppy decor, several broken things, no towel holder, stained towel, no cleaning done during the week (you don't have to like hygiene here), no water fountain like in other hostels, no food on sale to help out, on the other hand beers and water at 3 times the price of the supermarket next door.
In short, at the same price there are plenty of other much better hostels like the tested and approved Mayan Monkey.

If you are looking for Quality price 100% Recommended

Located near the ADO buses,
Family with picina and very good vibes.
All clean and perfect.
There is a large kitchen and refrigerators, also ATM to take cash in pesos, comfortable beds with air conditioning.
Showers near the room and breakfast included 100% recommended

The staff at Oryx Hostel were very friendly and helpful. They offer great activities around Tulum everyday and you can rent bikes for an affordable price. It is also easy to get around town by foot or with collectivo. The pool was clean and refreshing, and the common outdoor space was enjoyable and peaceful. The breakfast was fruit and toast, and the kitchen was spacious and clean.
My partner and I had a private bedroom (#7) and it was good, but having some hooks on the walls to hang stuff and more accessible surfaces to put down things would have been appreciated. The bathrooms could also use a bit of work (hangers on wall for towels, better shower heads and water pressure). We were supposed to stay 5 nights but ended up staying 3 because we couldn’t sleep at night. There was very loud music happening in the area until 3-4am every night. I don’t know if we just got bad luck or if this is a normal occurrence in this area, but due to the open nature of the rooms, there is nothing to filter out the sound. We ended up having to find another accomodation for our remaining nights, and we could not get refunded because we booked through Expedia. The staff accomodated us with free bikes for a day. Overall, it felt a bit pricey for what it is, considering we found a much nicer place in La Veleta for the same price (15mins walk from Oryx Hostel). I would recommend this place if you’re backpacking and looking for group activities and to be in a very central location.
