A Few Perfect Days Away

Absolutely incredible accommodation. Every little detail had been thoughtfully considered and it really showed throughout our stay. The staff were so attentive, welcoming, and genuinely cared about making sure everything was perfect. The facilities were beautiful, spotless, and extremely well maintained. We felt comfortable and relaxed from the moment we arrived. Highly recommend and would happily stay again!

A trip down memory lane – and somehow even better

We have been staying at Eagles Nest several times in the past, but after a lengthy break, returning in 2026 felt like a genuine trip down memory lane.
The greatest compliment we can give is this: none of the good stuff has changed – and yet they’ve still managed to make it even better. Back then, we described Eagles Nest as somewhere between seven stars and heaven – and that still holds true. The privacy, tranquillity, and level of service remain exceptional, and once again we found ourselves already talking about when we might come back next.
Just as before, Eagles Nest proved the perfect base for exploring the northern tip of New Zealand without the constant unpacking and repacking. That balance between feeling immersed in the region while having a luxurious “home” to return to is still one of its greatest strengths.
What impressed us most was the continuity of care. From the moment of booking, it was clear that Eagles Nest still remembers its guests—including details like food preferences and allergies. Arrival was just as seamless as we remembered, complete with a warm welcome and perfectly chilled champagne, timed to the ferry crossing as if no time at all had passed since our last visit.
We once again stayed in the Eyrie Villa, and it remains outstanding: beautifully appointed bedrooms with ensuites, a generous open‑plan living space, and a deck with pool and spa that is dangerously hard to leave. The décor feels timeless rather than dated—elegant, modern, and sophisticated—while discreet upgrades mean the villa is now even more comfortable and intuitive to live in.
The self‑service model still works brilliantly. The champagne is still good and chilled on arrival, and the complimentary breakfast provisions continue to be curated with real food lovers in mind—now with an expanded offering. The focus on regional products remains, and we were delighted to see that additional items, such as the wine selection, now also have a strong New Zealand focus—even if they are from Marlborough…
What has clearly improved even further is on‑site communication. The WhatsApp group works beautifully: prompt, friendly, and effective. Whether it was a simple “no matter what, I can’t find the plunger” moment or a more substantive request, we received a response in no time at all. Housekeeping works around you, not the other way around with service times agreed in the Whatsapp group, and nothing ever feels intrusive or hurried. It’s a small touch, but one that makes living there feel completely effortless.
Coming back after so many years could have been risky—memories often outshine reality. In this case, Eagles Nest delivered on every single one, and then some.
If you want the celebrity treatment without being a celebrity, this is still very much the way to go. And if you’re returning after a long time away, you may find—as we did—that Eagles Nest hasn’t just stood still. It has grown quietly better, without ever losing its soul.

Dear TSkippy,
Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a generous and beautifully thoughtful review.
It was an absolute pleasure to welcome you back to Eagles Nest after such a long time away, and reading your words genuinely meant a great deal to us. Returning somewhere that holds special memories can be a little risky, as you so perfectly said, so to know that Eagles Nest not only lived up to those memories but somehow felt even better is one of the highest compliments we could receive.
We are so pleased that The Eyrie still felt as special as you remembered it. It is wonderful to hear that the villa’s privacy, sense of calm, views, layout, pool and spa all still delivered that feeling of having your own luxurious home in the Bay of Islands. We also loved hearing that the small upgrades and added touches felt intuitive and comfortable, while still preserving the soul and character of the experience you remembered.
Your comments about the continuity of care were especially meaningful. Remembering our returning guests, from food preferences to arrival details and the little things that make a stay feel seamless, is something we care deeply about. It is lovely to know that this was felt from the moment of booking through to your arrival, and throughout your stay.
We are also delighted that you enjoyed the breakfast provisions, the focus on regional products, the New Zealand wine selection, and of course the chilled champagne on arrival. Your Marlborough comment gave us a smile too.
Thank you also for your kind words about our team and the WhatsApp communication. We want service at Eagles Nest to feel warm, thoughtful and completely effortless, never intrusive, so it means a great deal to know that this balance came through for you.
“Somewhere between seven stars and heaven” is a line we have never forgotten, and we are truly honoured that it still holds true after all these years.
Thank you again for returning to us, and for sharing such a heartfelt reflection on your stay. We would be absolutely delighted to welcome you back again when the time feels right, and hope it will not be quite such a long wait until your next trip down memory lane. We have your Eagles Nest t-shirt and cap waiting!
Warmest regards,
The Eagles Nest Team

peace and serenity

Being a business owner most of my life i never usually give anything or anyone a 10/10 as there is always room for improvement . However our stay at Eagles Next is an exception. It was superb in every way from cleanliness, appointments to the self catering for breakfast each day. The care of Ileen and Lauren was perfect and the whole property a credit to the team - the only possible complaint - and it is not a complaint really - is that some of the trees on the drive opposite Sacred be topped to give a bigger view from the beautiful upstairs bedroom suite - (not the kauri)_
The environment is serene and the whole area presented beautifully.
thank you Adam, Ileen and Lauren for a perfect birthday few days.

We also appreciate your considered suggestion regarding the trees. Guest perspectives are always valued, and we will certainly take this on board as we continue to work on enhancing the experience.
It was a pleasure to host you for such a special occasion, and we’re so pleased we could be part of your birthday celebration.
