Brilliant for wildlife, helpful staff and delicious meals

So close to nature! Great meals!
Really friendly staff who were on hand at all hours and amazing tours!
We saw lots of monkeys, caimans, parrots, fished with piranhas, spied tarantulas and capybaras at night, learned about the unusual botanics and thoughroughly enjoyed the cooking.
We said we travelled in Feb 2021 (but it was actually a little earlier than that, the date option didn't go back far enough).

Best jungle tour I could have done

Did the half day jungle tour at this hostel and I loved it. The guide brought us, via a lovely boat trip to the junglepart he is the only one doing tours and told us about the effect and uses of all the plants, spotted monkeys and brought us to the perfect spot to watch the sunset. And than we walked back through the dark, where he listened and than pointed out all kinds of special night animals. Finishing off with a kaaiman-capapibare boat tour where we tried and succeded to spot both! Overall really nice and local!

Not good for solo travelers

Not good for solo travelers nor for long stays. I left early as it wasn't a nice place to stay.
I arrived around 1pm, was quickly shown my room then the owner disappeared and the next time he spoke to me was at 8pm.
A group of travelers however, were picked up from the airport, given coconuts on arrival and tours explained to them.
My room was next to the toilets so I could constantly smell the toilets while in my room. Some rooms couldn't be locked, same with one of the showers and toilets. There wasn't even a latch to keep the door closed. Toilets are poorly designed, in one when you are sitting on the toilet a urinal is cms from your face.
The owner's kid is very attention seeking and will take your food or belongings for attention if you are in the common areas. He spits and throws food for attention. He went into my room without permission and a group suspects he was in their room while we were on a tour, as their unlockable door was open when we came back.
The accommodation is too far from town and the owner is hard to find during the day. It is confusing as to what meals are included and what are an extra cost. There is nothing to do outside of tours and is too far from town. It's not even quiet at night, as neighbours play music and dogs bark constantly.
Tours are ok but feel unsafe on his boat as it has a leak and he is constantly bailing out the water. The motor is barely working and took about 10mins to start on our way back. Tours are in Spanish as he speaks zero English.
It is expensive for the low quality you receive.

fuimos para 2 dias y nos quedamos 8 / We went for 2 days and we stayed 8.

See english below
We went for two days and we ended up staying 8 days. We felt like home there, as it is a family business run by Roger and Maria, charming and homey. If a couple of kilometres from Puerto Maldonado which means that is quiet and next to the jungle, away from the busy and noisy streets. Is the perfect place to relax if you have been traveling for a while or if you like that jungle and you want to get to know it better. Roger is the person in charge and he also makes small tours around the natural reserve and if you can, do them all as is one of the few tours that take time and Roger has examples and knows absolutely everything about the flora and animals of the area, also he is very generous with his time. I couldn’t recommend this place more! We were so happy that we painted a mural in the principal hall.

Amazing!

The family who run the hotel/lodge are incredibly warm and helpful, good people. It was a real pleasure to spend time with them, and we're so glad to have had the experience. The hostel is a relaxing place to hang out, and a great base from which to explore the river (go for a swim if you fancy) and secondary forest on foot. We took a day/evening trip with Roger, too. He knows his stuff, and he's passionate about where he lives. I highly recommend it!
We stayed in a private room with a double bed. It was simple, very clean, very comfortable, and well protected from mosquitos. The bathrooms are simple and clean too. There's no hot water, but you don't need it! Internet works throughout.
I couldn't have asked for more. 100% recommend.
