A magical tropical escape
If you're looking for a peaceful, authentic place with exceptional hospitality, incredible home-cooked food, abundant wildlife, and unforgettable turtle encounters, Armour at Turtle Beach is the perfect choice. We left with wonderful memories and will definitely be back one day. Highly recommended!
The host, Don, is an amazing cook. Every meal was freshly prepared by him using local seafood, vegetables, and fruit. Each dish was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious—honestly, the quality was worthy of a Michelin-star restaurant. My only complaint? The portions! I just wished I could have eaten more because everything was so good.
Although this was just a short three-night stop during our three-week trip around Sri Lanka, it will undoubtedly be the highlight of our holiday. Watching the wildlife, playing games on the balcony, and experiencing the turtles made such an impression on a 10yo, he said it was "the best experience ever." As a parent, hearing that made this stay really special.

An oasis of peace
The house is located outside the chaos of Tangalle, in a corner of paradise. Very close to the beach where turtles go to lay eggs at night. The peace that reigns in this place makes the stay special. The room is large, nicely decorated and very clean. The homeowner is an exquisite person.

A Wonderful Place To Stay
I highly recommend Amour. It is intimate and extremely beautiful. I stayed for 6 nights and had a wonderful time. The room is very big and clean and the surroundings are perfect with eagles, monkeys, peacocks and many tropical birds roaming around to see. The beach is stunning and just 1 minute walk from room. You can hear the waves from your balcony. The nightime turtle watch of mother's laying eggs is just behind the hotel and it's brilliant. I also saw newly hatched baby turtles in the daytime. The beach is stunning and almost entirely empty, it's a must see. There are several small homely and very cheap restaurants within minutes walk from the hotel so plenty of eating choices. The host Don was extremely helpful with any needs I had and advice for the local area. He also offers tours around Sri Lanka to visit Ella, waterfalls and see Sri Lankan elephants and archeological sites. The breakfast is AMAZING, I looked forward to it every day. Don has just 2 rooms so it's a very peaceful and intimate setting and very personal and special service that he offers.

Wonderful place!
Spacious, clean rooms with air condition and comfortable balcony. View into the lush, tropical garden with monkeys, peacocks, geckoes, and chipmunks. Perfect place to see the turtles laying eggs and hatching on Rekawa beach. You can also see the lagoon nearby with lots of birds. Breakfast was wonderful and varied.

Just wish we had booked longer, perfect place to stay when visiting Turtle Beach
What a perfect place to stay when visiting Turtle Beach. There are only two individual rooms available, so booking well in advance is recommended. We were in the upper room, which is a larger room and the opportunity to spot lots of wildlife is the best. There is a giant squirrel nest close to the balcony and we seen it early morning and evening.
The room was large with a comfortable bed and simple furnishings. The a/c was very effective as was the ceiling fan. Breakfast was perfect, with local delicacies on offer, which we had not tasted before such as Halapa (sweet treat).
The owner Don, is a charming and very likeable host. He could not do enough to make our short stay memorable. He can arrange anything that you may require. He personally escorted us on the evening Turtle egg laying trip, which is a short walk away from the accomodation and is essential viewing. We also had a kayak hire early one morning, around the lagoon mangroves, where we spotted a few large water monitors and many birds.
There are surprisingly quite a few restaurants right on the doorstep. Don also arranged a tuk tuk for us at a very reasonable rate to our next destination.
In summary, this is a rustic accomodation where the owner goes out of his way, above and beyond expectations. If you value being next to wildlife and a local community, you will not be disappointed.
