Worst Place we've been so far in Sri Lanka
1. The rooms are not clean and the bathroom is a place where the mold probably gets new forms of its existence. We switched to an AC room and in the bathroom it was dropping from every point it could drop.
2. We had no mosquito nets and you can't close everything to keep the mosquitos out of the room. If you are freightened of Malaria, this is the worst place to stay as you get hit by at least two mosquitos a night which come in through the openings of fresh air - even in the AC room!
3. There are no bed sheets at all and you don't get towels. I even believe that the beds are not changed when one guest moves out and the next guest moves in.
4. The AC was really really loud. In the first night, it stopped working. Although it got fixed the next day, it was still loud, so that we had to sleep with Ohropax in our ears.
5. As the rooms were open towards the restaurant, it was really really loud and the half of the night we had the smell of food in our noses.
6. As the owner is constructing new rooms, it is really loud. Morning at 8 o'clock they start working and if you want to sleep some hours more because you had an exhausting day before, it is over!
7. If the rooms were cheaper, we maybe could have disregarded all of this. But as we paid 4.400 LKR a night for a room with AC, we would NEVER go there again and can ABSOLUTELY not recommend this hotel.

A half built hotel run by a heart of gold
Anyway it was dark and we had nowhere else to go (self, wife and son). We were shown our room which was perfect except some small details. They had not prepared the room for us.
You want a list?
1. One light not working making room dim
2. no towels or soap
3. no sheets
4. No mossie net (vital here in Trico where they breed them in industrial size)
5. last remnants of toilet paper
6. no glasses for brushing teeth
Anyway we complained and the team set to work enthusiastically and within an hour all was fixed. As the door latch was missing the only way to keep it closed was to lock it. This meant much knocking on doors when one of us wanted to enter.
It was only the following morning that we started to get to know the owner. He was an ex soldier who was shot in the leg and pensioned off. The hotel was the only work he could do.
We only tapped into a fraction of this local knowledge but I began to warm to the place despite the mess. We later discovered that the owner was shot by police for siding with the Tamils in the war. His brother took over.
Breakfast consisted of at least 12 slices of toast, a Sri Lankan omelette (egg, peppers, onions made very thin), bananas, tea or coffee. Bearing in mind that it was heating up even at 8am the breakfast was quite satisfactory. On the floor lay a man sleeping, obviously a local, but he was woken the the owner's wife and shoed off.
There is also a general recreation and meeting room which the locals use for a quiet drink and a chat.
To cut a long story short we grew to like the place (2 day stay). NB We should do well to remember that this is far, far away from Europe and people are not used to reading European languages. I wondered why he was having some trouble reading my booking.com reservation until I realised his grasp of written English was very basic.
One of the best bits was the bill. Rs 12192 for two rooms B and B two nights. That's about 60 UKPounds.
We said a fond farewell with much hand shaking.
