Ruined Half-Board Stay: Mislabeled Food, Zero Empathy, and Poor Dated Facilities
The food management is non-existent and dangerous if you have any dietary needs. I explicitly asked the chef prior to eating a pasta dish labeled "Spinach and Ricotta Ravioli" and was assured it contained no meat. I bit into it only to find it was pork. When I raised this issue with the head chef, he completely dismissed it and told me the hotel simply "does not cater for vegetarians."
At breakfast, basic hygiene is ignored. Staff poured vegetarian omelettes directly onto griddles covered in bacon grease and black pudding fat, and when I pointed this out, they were unhelpful and dismissive. Most nights, there were no viable vegetarian hot choices beyond plain salad leaves and bread. Paying for half-board here was a complete waste of money, and having only two toasters for a 500-guest hotel meant constant queues every morning.
The lack of customer care was shocking. Our son has epilepsy (which triggers seizures while eating) as well as cerebral palsy. We politely asked the door supervisor to reserve a quiet corner table so our son could dine with dignity without adults and children staring at him. They flatly refused, despite reserving tables for other guests right in front of us. The complete lack of basic human empathy was appalling.
The hotel itself is badly lagging behind. The rooms are completely stuck in the 1990s, tired, and in dire need of refurbishment. 75% of the main pool is over two metres deep, cramming all adults and children into one tiny shallow corner, and the pool steps were broken for our entire stay. On top of that, you have to deal with endless sunbed reserving with towels from first thing in the morning, steep €14 a night parking, and only two painfully slow lifts for 500 guests, meaning you spend half your time waiting for full lifts to pass.
The noise is constant with blaring music every night until midnight that makes sea-view beds and windows vibrate, and the gym is an absolute joke, charging €6 a day for dated equipment, weights only up to 5kg, and a single treadmill.
Special mention to Betty at dinner, the chambermaids, and the animation team (Toni and Molly) who were all brilliant. However, hotel management, kitchen leadership, and guest relations are completely unfit for purpose. Save your money and book elsewhere.

Thank you for taking the time to rate your experience with us. We would like to inform you that at the Servigroup La Zenia hotel, strict hygiene and food safety measures are in place. The health authorities carry out regular inspections, during which no issues have been detected. Similarly, the kitchen facilities are inspected, and tests are carried out on food, surfaces and food-handling staff, all of which have been found to be in order. Proof of this is the strict control we exercise over food served directly at the table, including the relevant protocol for gluten-free menus, requested by guests with food intolerances and coeliac disease. For the safety of our guests, dishes are prepared in accordance with strict quality controls and all the health and safety requirements set out in current Spanish regulations. Furthermore, we offer a wide variety of dishes to suit our guests’ different tastes, providing a first-class culinary experience. We are sorry to hear that your experience at our hotel did not meet your expectations; we understand that preferences and tastes regarding food are subjective matters for each guest. However, this does not reflect the quality or food safety standards of our hotel chain. Nevertheless, we will take your comments on board and pass them on to the relevant departments for follow-up and to assess possible improvements.
Kind regards,
Customer Service Department.
