Quick local getaway

Overall, our stay at Meriton on Adelaide Street was pretty average. It definitely wasn’t what I’d call a luxury or high-end experience, but it was comfortable, clean, and had everything we needed for a two-night stay. The location was excellent and within walking distance of most attractions, which was a huge plus.
One disappointment was being allocated a room on Level 3 for a two-night stay. We were hoping for something a little higher up, especially as Meriton is known for its views. Unfortunately, the only view we had was of a homeless man outside our window, so I can’t really comment on the scenery.
The only part of our stay that left a sour taste was on our second night when our key cards were unexpectedly disabled. When we went to reception, I was asked several questions to verify my identity, which I completely understand from a security perspective. However, I was then told they hadn’t received my email address at check-in and asked to provide it again, even though I’d already written it down on the registration form and it was attached to my booking. As soon as I said my email address, the staff member responded with, “Yep, that’s correct,” making it seem like they already had it and were simply testing whether I was the right person. While I appreciate the security protocols, the way it was handled felt a little deceptive and honestly a bit embarrassing.
Overall, it was a comfortable stay in a great location and suited our needs. While there were a few disappointing moments, it was perfectly adequate if you’re just after somewhere clean and convenient to stay.

Not good

Extremely disappointing — definitely not worth the price
We stayed at Meriton Suites Adelaide Street, Brisbane for one night with our family, and honestly, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I have had in the last 10 years.
We booked a two-bedroom suite, which normally costs around AUD 720 per night. At that price, I expected a high standard of accommodation and service. Unfortunately, the reality was completely different.
The parking is located on the other side of the building and costs an additional AUD 50 per night. For a hotel charging around $720 for a one-night stay, this feels excessive.
The room itself was very old and poorly maintained. The windows were dirty on the outside, and even the clothes-drying rack was broken and unusable.
What surprised me even more was the complete lack of basic complimentary amenities. There were no slippers, no bathrobes, no complimentary bottled water, and not even basic toothpaste or toothbrushes. If you want slippers or a bathrobe, you have to buy them separately from the hotel. The same applies to basic dental items.
This becomes particularly ridiculous when you consider the pool and sauna. They are located on the fifth floor, and if you want to use them, you are apparently expected to walk there either wearing your own slippers and robe or purchase them from the hotel. I have stayed in many hotels around the world, and this is certainly not what I would expect from accommodation at this price level.
The pool facilities were disappointing as well. There was sand or dirt on the bottom of the pool, a damaged/missing piece of tile, and the smaller pool was completely closed for renovation. Some of the benches around the pool were visibly rusty. The sauna, which accommodates perhaps 5–6 people, is apparently supposed to serve a hotel occupying around 74 floors. You cannot reserve it in advance, and it was practically always full.
The check-in experience was another disappointment.
Before arrival, I specifically asked if our family could be accommodated on a higher floor. At around 2:45 pm, I was told that my booking only allowed a room up to the 17th floor, which I found very strange. I was then told that the only available option was the 11th floor because the 17th floor had not yet been cleaned.
Check-in is advertised from 3:00 pm. If it was already 2:45 pm, I really struggle to understand why a room on the 17th floor could not have been prepared within the remaining 15 minutes — especially when guests are required to check out at 10:00 am, giving the hotel approximately five hours to prepare rooms.
So, no, we didn’t get the 17th floor — let alone anything remotely close to the higher floors of the building.
I honestly do not understand the enthusiastic reviews this hotel receives. Perhaps some guests have simply had even worse experiences elsewhere. But based on my own experience, this was easily one of the worst hotels I have stayed in over the past decade.
For approximately $720 per night, plus $50 for parking, I expect much more than an old, poorly maintained suite, dirty windows, broken equipment, paid basic amenities, overcrowded facilities and disappointing service.
For us, this was absolutely not worth the money.
We will definitely never stay here again, and I would seriously recommend considering other options in Brisbane before spending this kind of money at Meriton Suites Adelaide Street.

A good place to stay in a central location. It can be a bit noisy at times, and the price is quite high for what you get. Check-in was slow, and our room was not ready on time. After a long flight from Norway, we had to wait an additional 50 minutes before we could access our room.

Very small bathroom,shower in bathtub not good for elderly or children.walk in showers in most hotels.
We have stayed in Meriton hotels in all Australia cities and found this one disappointing.
