I'm a solo traveler and stayed 5 nights. Location is great. The staff is very helpful. My shared room with private bathroom was very comfy. Simply recommended

'Backpackers' Only?

As a person suddenly in the unenviable position of facing homelessness, I was given several phone numbers for accomodation by Housing Connect.
When I rang these people however the girl I spoke to very pertinently asked if I was 'Facing a homeless situation' to which I truthfully responded 'Yes, kind of'.
She then in a very cold, matter-of-fact way explained that I could only seek accomodation there (a room with 12 other people) if I was a 'backpacker'.
For the purpose of securing short term accomodation, I said 'Yes, I am a backpacker' because it is effectively true having just arrived from interstate.
She then told me that I couldn't book a room because I said that I was homeless.
I am glad that there are wonderful services and truly empathetic people around who do help the community but this isn't one of them.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.
We’re truly sorry to hear about your situation and understand how stressful this time must be for you.
However, we would like to clarify that our booking enquiries are handled through a central call centre, not directly by our Hobart reception team. As a short-term accommodation provider for travellers, we operate under policies designed for backpacker-style stays and are not a shelter or emergency housing service.
Because of this, we are only able to accommodate guests who meet our traveller-based stay requirements, and our team is required to follow these guidelines consistently.
We understand this may have felt impersonal during a difficult moment, and we’re sorry for any frustration caused. We do genuinely wish you the best in finding suitable support and accommodation and encourage you to continue working with Housing Connect and local support services who are best placed to assist in situations like this.

Quiet for the middle of the city.
Bed could of been better quality. Not very comfortable. Great location for exploring the city.
Reasonably priced for double private room.

A lovely hostel with a kind staff

A lovely hostel, I made a reservation before and after my booked tour with Under Down Under in Tasmania and also spent several nights there during the tour. Overall I enjoyed it. A few points that you might not take into account before arrival - there is no elevator, so if you have a heavy suitcase it is difficult to go upstairs. If there is an option, you can use the lovely staff who provide a solution to everything. During my stay there was only one dryer that worked, which should also be taken into account if you need to do a laundry. Overall my stay there was fine, especially in private rooms with a shower and toilet.
There was some smell of sewage or mold in my last room ,better to check it in private room. There is one small kitchen, but enough room for everyone. The hostel also provides some facilities such as free pizza night and platypus tour or pub crawl.
In general I'm glad that I chooce this hostel, especialy because of the kind staff.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed review. It means a lot to hear that you chose to stay with us before, during and after your tour, and we’re really glad to know you enjoyed your overall experience.
We appreciate you pointing out the areas that could have been better. You’re right that the building doesn’t have an elevator and this can be challenging with heavy luggage.
Thank you also for mentioning the dryer situation. We’re aware of this and have already arranged for maintenance so all machines can be back in service as soon as possible.
I’m very sorry to hear about the smell in your last private room. This definitely isn’t up to our standards. We have passed this on to our maintenance and housekeeping teams to investigate and resolve immediately.
It’s wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the events, the private rooms and especially the staff. The team will be so happy to know they made a difference in your stay.
We really appreciate your feedback and are glad you chose to stay with us. You’re always welcome back and we’ll be here to help make your next stay even better.
