Appalling Service at Waterfront Hotel Moruya Bistro

Dined at the bistro at Waterfront Hotel Moruya with my book club group. We meet once a month for dinner somewhere to support a local establishment. We ordered and paid individually on the same table number. The bistro dining area was empty except for us, yet service was completely disorganised.
One meal arrived cold. When a request was made to heat it up, it was reheated begrudgingly and without apology.
Three of us ordered the same main-size special. Due to an error by the junior cashier, two of those meals were mistakenly charged as entrée size. This wasn’t noticed at the time as payment was tap-and-go.
When food came out, meal sizes were inconsistent and confusing. When my meal finally arrived, I queried why I received an entrée instead of the main size I ordered and paid for, the head chef/manager refused to acknowledge any mistake and insisted that if I’d ordered a main, “one of your friends is eating it”.
He was extremely rude and so I just asked for a refund and showed proof of payment on my bank app. I was threatened with police involvement, with the claim that my friend would be charged with theft despite it being the restaurant’s error. My friend then checked her bank and confirmed she had been incorrectly charged for an entrée while eating the main she had ordered. At this stage she then offered to pay the extra $10 so they could make me the main I ordered and paid for. This offer was ignored and no attempt to rectify the situation was offered whatsoever.
After speaking with the hotel duty manager (who advised the bistro is leased), I returned to ask the head chef what he had decided to do. He responded by silently taking cash from the till, slamming it on the counter, and walking away. No apology. No explanation. No professionalism.
I have been dining out for over 40 years and have never experienced customer service this hostile, dismissive, or inappropriate. Mistakes happen and I have no problem with that - but threatening customers and refusing accountability is unacceptable.
Eat elsewhere.

Bad mannered chef

Came here for a mid-week summer meal with 7 members of a book club. Chef’s young daughter was on front of house. Lovely 14-year-old, underage worker with the maturity appropriate to her age. Unfortunately she entered orders incorrectly and food brought out was not what the party ordered. Pasta was served cold and chef microwaved it, but without grace. Chef argued with guests who requested a refund or to be given what they ordered. The whole experience soured our book club session and resulted in this bad review.

It’s all great!!

Perfect spot for some great pub grub, a cold beer, and a brilliant view. Doggies allowed, playground for the kids, loads of shade and sunshine on the riverfront. We will be off looking for the oyster shop after lunch then back to Tuross Heads - awesome

Unlucky experience

The place is old and outside of rooms is very dirty so when you go inside the room always getting dirty, in special when is raining. Inside the room a few cockroaches were found. Staff were polite but they didn’t have good knowledge. When has alive music you can sleep just after finishing song because it is outside in the backyard close the rooms.

Very good location
