Vila on the Lagoon

Mangoes staff always go over and beyond to make a holiday special. Second visit but we enjoyed it. The restaurant and Chef Taku provide a delicious menu and food is great.
Clean and comfortable rooms, we love the lagoon view and shutters that control heat. Air con is new from last visit but at this time of year we don’t really need it. Would be appreciated during the summer months.
The massage for couples is a real treat and girls were fantastic with their magic hands.

Great experience at Mangoes

My daughter and I stayed at Mangoes for 2 nights before we flew to Tanna, the manager Chichi is fabulous and looked after us upon our arrival.
It’s located close to town, either a 10-15 min walk or bus.
Our room was lovely and clean and was serviced daily with a comfy bed, it was equiped with a kitchenette for making tea and coffee, the room had a restricted view over the bay but I had booked a garden villa and didn’t expect to have a view.
There is a restaurant and the food the we ordered was delicious.
The staff were extremely helpful and very friendly.
Mangoes is an adults only resort and was peaceful, quiet and just a relaxing experience all round and was great value for money!
There isn’t too much to do at the resort apart from swimming in the pools and they do have a beauty spa.
Over all Mangoes lovely and I would return.

Friendly staff and natural location. Bring your walking shoes

We stayed 7 nights and enjoyed the largely peaceful setting. The resort staff were all very friendly and helpful - and we felt very welcomed. The resort is a walk uphill from the main township of Port Vila, and without footpaths or even surfaces, some guests will be challenged by walking anywhere around this neighbourhood (that's not Mangoes' fault - it's everywhere). The nearest (best) supermarket is a branch of ABM, which is a 20mins walk away with some hills. The resort view is to the other side of Efate from Vila's waterfront, but the lagoon at the foot of the hill is neither accessible nor permitted for swimming/other activities. We stayed in a larger garden apartment with a small kitchenette which also had a plunge pool. The pool was too cold to swim in (July) and is visible to other guests (so not private). These larger apartments back onto the road so traffic noise may be an issue for light sleepers. Crowing roosters and barking dogs are also a constant, which can be either charming or irritating depending on your mood. The kitchens were sparsely equipped and the daily cleaning varied considerably in attentiveness and quality. At bight we found the room a little chilly but there is a blanket and A/C - again it was July - so I imagine it's very different in the wet season. Overall we thought this was reasonable value for money, but other guests may want to consider hiring a car to provide easier transport freedom. There are 2 taxi drivers who the resort recommends but they aren't always available, especially at night. We didn't have any issues getting a hailed bus to drop us off.

Appallingly bad

Avoid this resort at all costs.located in the slums of Vanahatu where you dare not walk out at night.15 minute taxi ride to main street at a cost of 1500 vatu,on checkin met a lovely local guy called Sammi who was a taxi driver,as we were talking in reception area he proceeded to point out a rat that was heading from
The kitchen area back across the street to the shacks.
Accommodation was appallingly poor quality, shower area filthy sinks filthy .we were told to put any valuables in wardrobe and lock it for safety ,no safes, plunge pool by side of villa filthy with leaves from trees above.tiles missing from plunge pool floor,we proceeded to check the main pool aeas out hoping it would improve but to no avail, decking smashed and tiles missing,so in a nutshell nowhere to sunbathe,if i were backpacking i would have been gutted to have been put in here. This resort has been charging the same nightly rate as the hotel we moved to after one night, sorry forgot to mention the dogs barking outsde oor room at 5am from across the road
On the website this is 4 star in reality this resort cannot be certified

Excellent accommodation

Stayed for ten days at Mangoes. There are no children allowed here so I had a peaceful stay.
My room had a nice view looking out over a lagoon.
The room was clean and the back deck is a really lovely place to relax and unwind with your own small private pool.
The staff are really friendly and welcoming. My ten day stay included a light breakfast. The food in the restaurant is excellent and I had several dishes from the dinner menu. My favourite was the chicken and onion kebabs.
Location-wise, you are about a 20-25 minute walk into town and taxis cost 700-1000 VAT from the resort. V1000 is about AU$12 on the current exchange. The nearest supermarket is a 20-25 minute walk.
The grounds are well maintained and there are a couple of bigger swimming pools.
All in all, I really enjoyed my stay here with the food, staff and accommodation all a highlight.

Very good location
