Terrible rooms - avoid!!

Quite possibly one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Room was very tired, carpet worn and frayed. Hairdryer useless and spare given to me stopped working. Curtains were so worn daylight was coming through (see pics) All for the amazing price of just under £180 for one night.

Just about bearable for a couple of nights mid week.

We arrived and the check in staff were lovely. Sadly the immediate area outside the hotel looks to have been redeveloped 15/20 years ago and is now in need of some TLC.
Same for inside the room. Everything tired and in need of replacement and mattresses on the second half of their life.
Came into room to find ceiling tiles not put back in place by whomever last checked the air con. Immediately was concerned about hidden cameras as the half replaced tile was right outside the bathroom door. Easy enough to rotate the tile 90 degrees so it fits the frame again.
Oh wow, THE most disgusting TV remote I have EVER found in any hotel. Tomato sauce, cheese, and other debris were all stuck on buttons and on the casing between the buttons. Am very glad I bring antibac wipes with me wherever I go, so was able to clean the remote and remove the tomato sauce, cheese etc.
The bathroom is in desperate need of a refresh. Warped skirting boards coming away from the floor, paint missing from skirting boards at join to flooring. Black mould in grout areas around bath. Ventilation in bathroom is non existent. Water marks on the walls. Don't try to have a bath at 10pm as the allegedly 'hot' water is just above blood warmth temperature. Definitely elderly aunt hot water tank running out because you should be asleep vibes
No cleaning of touch points into bathroom. Wall grey and grubby around light switch, lipstick marks on wall by large mirror by door to room. All able to be removed by me using antibac wipes. Then went round and thoroughly wiped down all the light switches and touch points in the room.
Hmmm..will not be back to this Premier Inn unless the website states a refurbishment has taken place.
One star for lovely staff
One star for plentiful hot breakfast
One star for reasonable bed = 3 stars in total

Premier Inn…. NOT THE USUAL QUALITY…. Superb Manager

Not The Usual Premier Inn Quality - A Tale Of Two Halves.
Long story short.
Booked the hotel with breakfast, love premier inn, sensible price and superb location.
Easy check in, got into the room
Signs and Smell of Damp & Mould along with the feel and look of a very dirty room.
After 15 minutes I decided to speak with customer service, they said I need to speak with the manager and then check out before I can do anything.
Spoke with the Manager Beth who was sublime and very helpful, I then called customer services and with the help of the Manager Beth helped me get a full refund.
We then checked out Immediately and checked into another hotel.
Long story short
Was I horrified…. Yes
Did they sort it out….. Yes (refund as I requested)
Due to this rectification would I continue to sue premier inn….. Yes

Overall good but some issues

The location of this hotel is perfect - most of the places we wanted to see and go were within walking distance, including an easy walk from the rail and bus stations.
The hotel rooms (we stayed in Premier Plus rooms) were fairly spacious and comfortable but there was no drawer space and very little shelf space, so expect to keep your belongings in packing cubes or something.
The air conditioning was an absolute godsend, considering we were staying during a heatwave. The rooms (we were on third floor) were gloriously quiet as well.
Breakfast was typical Premier Inn fare, good variety of stuff for continental.
The cleanliness of the rooms was not great but it was okay. We found some bits on the floor and a few hairs in the bath, but overall while it wasn't perfect it wasn't awful either.
In one of our rooms the iron didn't work and the hairdryer kept cutting out due to a loose connection but in my experience any Premier Inn is quite good with sorting things like that out if we'd have asked (I was lazy and couldn't be bothered).
A nice touch was the noticeboard of independent local shops in the lobby, which we went to several of and we're good recommendations.
