I expected better.

We stayed at this hotel for work reasons. The staff is very welcoming and kind. The room is average, but the bathroom is definitely not 4 stars. Setting aside the aesthetic aspect (which leaves much to be desired), the bathroom had a bathtub. Taking a shower was very uncomfortable. The mattresses on the beds are too hard. Strategic location.

Good central location in an unexpectedly nice city. Dark interiors, some street noise but good sleep quality. Good breakfast although bread and coffee quality could have been better.

Disappointment with Hotel Montestella- Salerno

I don't know where to start...
Well, I think I'll start with the fact that I totally disagree with the Italian hotel rating system. According to the official body responsible. a 4-star hotel needs to have 24-hour reception, changing sheets and towels every day, safe....
If I had informed myself about this earlier, I would not have been so frustrated.
We traveled through Italy and stayed in Rome, Venice, Salerno and Palermo. In all we have selected 4-star hotels with proximity to train stations for convenience.
We knew in advance that the rooms would not be large, as the hotels are usually in historic buildings that do not allow many changes.
Only the hotel in Salerno, the HOTEL MONTESTELLA 1914, was disappointing in many respects.
The room was really small, very small. There was no closet, just a kind of stick with a drawer. The blackout in the window was ridiculous.
In the bathroom sink there was no room for anything. A shelf would help a lot.
The discharge was a hell of noise. An old system that uses a lot of water unnecessarily.
And, obviously, all the discharges from the other rooms were the same: a huge and endless noise, for it kept making noise until the discharge box filled again. Therefore, we heard the noise of our bathroom and also that of the host above, below, next door....
Of course there were no roupoes or slippers either...
The bathroom box was impressively small. A person overweight would definitely not be able to use it. MINUSCULOOO!!!
The walls are probably of cardboard: all the noises from the neighbors were heard.
Another thing I don’t understand: how much does it cost for hotels to have international channels on their TVs????
I got to bed one day and almost cried out of sadness about what the hotel has the courage to offer the guests. Nothing but Italian channels.
Now, breakfast.....my God!
All I had (and didn’t have much) was little: little straw, little cold/cheese, little egg, little sausage.... Fruits? Orange (with shell), apple, and banana. Throw in refrigerator baskets.
Oh, I almost did an injustice: there were peaches and pineapple fruits in the broth. From can. For breakfast.
The mixed egg was served in stainless steel (which was swinging and coming out as the person tried to serve) and, while there was a little egg, there was no replacement. Same thing with the sausage. By the way, you rarely met the two at the same time...
I came to witness a person complaining about the absence of colds: the employee was late from a counter and took a drawer ready and put it in place. I mean, the product is there, it exists, but it only goes to the guest when he complains. If you do not complain, replacement only after finishing the last piece of ham.
We were impressed by the lack of care/lack of staff.
After all, apart from the location and exchange of linen and towels, there is no reason to consider the Montestella a 4 stars, in my humble opinion
I don't indicate!
Below are some photos of the cafe of manha.( From the room I did not dare to register.)

Please note in your site that the shower is 2.2X 2 a proximity, to get in the door open to the inside you need to move to one side then able to close it! Never been in a shower so small in my life and We are not big people my husband 5.7 168 pounds! I am 5.1 ! To be able to go out I needed to call my husband to open the door !!! Hotel sold out so you can imaging taking showers there!! 3 nights there!! Don’t one any one to go through that experience!!
