Skiing in Schladming Area
Stayed here with an organised group of around 30 of us in February 2022 just after COVID regulations had been relaxed.
Hotel is family run for 5 generations, currently run by Kevin and his wife.
This was the first time the group had used this hotel having previously used another at the other end of the resort in Hausennstal.
Hotel is situated around a kilometre from the nearest bubble lifts with access to Reiteralm this links to Hochwurzen and on to Plania.
Rooms are definitely Austrian style with lots on wood, quite basic generous size, with balconies good heating and insulated glass windows, Austrian style beds good shower rooms with endless hot water.
Breakfast is served in a specific spacious breakfast room. All traditional fare with unlimited amounts of servings for those with large appetites!
Dinner was a four course affair, salad bar, soup, choice of three main courses and desert. Certain amount of traditional Austrian style food here, but being used to it for thirty years was expected. What was surprising was the range and quality of the food. Everything was beautifully served and quite exceptional for a mid range hotel. Chef has been with them for 29 years and a second chef for 2 years. Staff were very helpful and cheerful despite being busy during dinner. I was so impressed with the food presentation, I took photos to send to my wife. Never done that before!
Ski bus stops outside the hotel so transport to skiing was simple. It’s a Lyle way out of the way in Mandling but is a hidden gem of great vale.
Kevin his wife and their baby Carla are great hosts.

Ok, but nothing special
Most of the rooms are quite old. There seem to be some renovated rooms, but none of our group was lucky enough to get one. At least some have a balcony, but mine didn't. The shower was very old-fashioned, no single-lever mixer as is usual these days. The bath towel was barely bigger than a normal towel and was probably quite scratchy due to its age. One colleague didn't even have a shower, just a bathtub without a shower curtain or anything like that, so the floor was always really wet. The breakfast room was very modern, at least, the selection there was not extensive but sufficient. The restaurant is also nice, but our food was all quite over-seasoned (Maggi?). The friendly staff was commendable, and the location is OK, even though Mandling is not exactly close to Schladming's nightlife. Overall it was OK, but the rooms need renovation.

Disappointing
- rooms with old furniture, no fridge in the rooms, smell of mold everywhere
- towels old and damaged
- no shower gel, toilet paper almost finished , no garbage can
- tv set old and few programs
- breakfast with food of very low quality and cheap, from supermarkets, no milk, no cereals, no eggs, no youghurt, only cheap ham and cheese slices.
- the owners were watching all the time the guests during breakfast, like the policemen
-lack of respect for stranger guests, especially for romanian guests
I don't recommend this hotel at all... wastevof money.

Ski trip in Schladming with friends
I was here for 2 nights with friends for skiing in Planai resort. There were clean and cosy rooms. There are all the things you need during the ski trip. During breakfast, I missed any kind of vegetables and it was the only thing that I missed.

Value for money - good stay near Reiteralm ski-lifts
We were here for 2 night during Christmas holiday for skiing in Schladming. Hotel is old fashioned (obsolete) but clean and offers everything you need for your stay during skiing season.
Service is OK. Breakfast are also good. Sauna is small, but we were here alone, so we were satisfied.
Restaurant offers dinner. Menu is typical Austrian and meal is good enough (more average than good). In Mandling there are not a lot of choices for dinner.
Parking is free and there is a lot of space for parking in front of hotel.
The best thing is location. Hotel is less than 5 minutes by car from one of Schladming ski-lifts - Reiteralm. Reiteralm is (for me) the best place in Schladming for skiing. It offers a lot of long lifts and slopes in top quality.
I recommend this hotel for budget stay in Schladming near great ski-slopes.
