Exceptional Service for an Extraordinary Occasion!
From the warm welcome at arrival to the smallest thoughtful details throughout our stay, the service was truly exceptional. Management needs to change
Came into room, happy it is spacious but lighting is poor again. We really don't understand why 5 star hotel consistently have such poor lighting, they must know their average customers are age 50 and above and is hard for us to see things with only dim lights. The room has no electric flask, no spoon, only 2 cups. No laundry bag, no pen, no conditioner. I've to dial reception but no one seems to understand English and pass me around like merry go round or cut me off. It took a good 30min. to speak to someone. Room floor is also filthy as there seems to be minimum vacuuming and mopping.
This is the poorest 5 star hotel so far 3 weeks in Colombia and the reception staff are the least helpful and cheerful.
How could a Junior suite room has only 2 cups with no teaspoon for a 5 star hotel? No wine glasses and no drinking glasses. I have to call reception and thought they understood. Then after 20min. room service call me asking me what I want? I told them 2 wine glasses and 2 drinking glasses please? And took another 20min. for them to understand.
Club lounge we tried to access it on 26th Dec, strangely it is not on the 7th floor though the sign was clearly there. Our key couldn't access, we went to reception. There were about 4-5 people at reception having a good chit chat, we approach them asking them why our key can't access club lounge. They spoke to one another in Spanish and the lady who check us in was there seems to tell the other "yes we can access it". She asked us for our room number, not smiling, not apologetic. Is like doing us a favor - updated our card and give it to us telling us Club lounge on 6th floor.
Club lounge on the 6th floor looks newly renovated though no sign to show it is a club lounge, food selection looks good but when you tried them, they are cold and seems to be there for a long time. No hot food except a cheese Empanadas which taste bad. Wine by the glass is average at least on nice glasses. A lot of effort has been put into the decor but the food and staff couldn't live up to it.
Gym is 24hrs and only 2 treadmills. Machines are dated but at least spacious. Lap pool outdoor temperature is good but when you swim, you can see the pool is quite filthy. Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna are mixed. Jacuzzi jet is hardly there, steam room and sauna are good.
Overall, is a poor Intercontinental chain as we love Intercontinental Bangkok. Marriott Bogota and Courtyard Marriott in Bogota are way better even though their decor may be dated.
I hope management of Hotel Intercontinental in Medellin had a good wake up call.
