Hidden gem delivers

Faultless stay at this top quality hidden gem.
Father and son (Irish men)2 day trip to the battle fields where we were treated like kings in wonderful surroundings. Four poster beds, drinks by the fire,generous breakfast spread or top quality evening meal,take your pick. Grace was a wonderful host and along with Mia made our stay both educational and memorable. The guided tours were for me a highlight with Pysu and Stuie taking us out on to the battlefields where their passion for the history and depth of knowledge was self evident. Would love to return and do it all again. Thank you Fugitives Drift Lodge.

Amazing place to visit

An amazing place where you are really welcomed by some fantastic staff who make you feel at home within minutes. The rooms are grand with all amenities you need. The food is excellent but need to mention one lady Grace is is one of the happiest people I have met, always a smile and quietly singing away.
We did the Battlefield tour with the most amazing guides who immerse you in the history and bring a lump to your throat with tales of the battles and the bravery of so many.

Fascinating and Reverential

I had the real pleasure of spending the day with the team at the Lodge and going on the Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift battlefield tours. Every single member of the Lodge team was welcoming, friendly, helpful and engaging. The Lodge is stunning with fantastic views, several different areas with stunning views over the valley in front , its own museum, library and swimming pool. The tours were exceptional. Isandlwana with Mphiwa in the morning and Douglas at Rorke’s Drift in the afternoon, two exceptional speakers their knowledge on their respective battles was exemplary. On the drive to Isandlwana Mphiwa pointed out various salient points from the armies journeys to the battlefield and took us to a hill overlooking the site from which one could view the whole sweeping vista of the battlefield. Douglas sat us down and told the emotional story of those hours of battle at Rorke’s Drift. Both tours were timed at almost the same time of the day as when the battles were fought. Both spoke with detailed knowledge and due reverence. Absolutely marvellous. Fantastic “lecturers” supported by a brilliant team. Thank you all.

Do not miss this unique experience of South African history!

The tours were amazing - Brian made the Isandlwana battle come alive! Douglas’s rendition of Rorke’s Drift defence was so close to that of his late father’s. The rest of the team made sure we were well-fed, well looked after and at home.

Fugitives Drift - a poignant moment in history

This was the most incredible experience I have ever had. The very luxurious accommodations coupled with the family atmosphere that the staff convey and the moving storytelling of our guides is unparalleled. I will recommend this fantastic and so peaceful place to everyone I know.
