An Exceptional Stay in the Heart of Kyoto
I was traveling while pregnant, so minimizing unnecessary walking and making transportation as easy as possible were especially important to me. Hotel Okura Kyoto turned out to be the perfect choice.
What impressed me most was the concierge service. The staff were incredibly attentive without ever being intrusive. They helped arrange taxis in advance and even assisted with communicating our destination to taxi drivers in Japanese. These may seem like small details, but during a trip, especially when traveling while pregnant, that kind of thoughtful support makes a huge difference. The level of care truly felt worthy of a five-star hotel.
The location is another major highlight. The hotel is directly connected to Kyoto subway station, which made getting around incredibly convenient. It is also connected to the Zest underground shopping area, which was a lifesaver during Kyoto’s intense summer heat. We could shop, eat, and move between places while staying out of the heat as much as possible.
The location also made sightseeing surprisingly effortless. For example, we could travel from the hotel to Nijo Castle by subway in about 15 minutes door-to-door. Pontocho was within an easy walking distance, and Gion was also close enough to visit without exhausting ourselves. For me, this meant we could enjoy Kyoto to the fullest while keeping physical fatigue to a minimum.
I also loved how easy it was to enjoy Kyoto itself from the hotel. An early-morning walk along the Kamo River was peaceful and refreshing, while the river at night had an entirely different atmosphere. Being able to step out of the hotel and experience these parts of Kyoto so easily made the location feel even more special.
And definitely don’t miss breakfast at the 17th-floor Top Lounge Orizzonte. The panoramic view of Kyoto, including the Kamo River and Higashiyama mountains, was beautiful. Our room was on a lower floor, so we couldn’t enjoy much of a mountain view from the room, but breakfast gave us the perfect opportunity to take in the Kyoto skyline from above.
And one more thing: don’t leave without trying Hotel Okura’s signature French toast. It was one of my favorite parts of breakfast!
After this stay, I felt that Hotel Okura Kyoto wasn’t simply a convenient place to stay—it actually made our entire Kyoto trip more comfortable and enjoyable.
For anyone visiting Kyoto, especially in the hot summer months or with family members who may prefer to minimize walking, this hotel is an excellent choice. The combination of location, service, and comfort is hard to beat.
