Really enjoy the solemn morning ritual in the morning that's exclusive to the hotel visitors; Breakfast are tasty. Room is clean.

Delicious vegetarian meal on the mountain

This restaurant is located on the second floor of the hotel. Their hours are limited 11:30-2 pm and they only accept reservations for groups at this time. The vegetarian set I ordered was really delicious. There was a little hot pot with soft tofu and other veggies as well as several small side dishes and a soup. Everything tasted fresh and was well-seasoned. I was surprised by how full I was with this meal. The views from the restaurant are beautiful but it was quite foggy when we came. I still loved how serene it felt being on the mountain.
*** Tip: take the train to Hieizan Sakamoto St., then take taxi to Sakamoto Cable Car Station or walk 25 minutes, then take cable car to the top. The cable car is the longest in Japan.

I would have said that we had a wonderful stay: loved the peaceful environment, the food, the morning service…. But then they started the morning with a team of workers going through the temple grounds with deafening leaf blowing machines! Why do they disturb the peace like this? The temple claims to be environmentally conscious, but these machines are noisy, irritating, wasteful and bad for the environment. It made me leave the place in a bed mood.

Great views but stay down in town if you don’t want to waste time or money.

Some good things but mostly bad. Was here for the Mt Hiei international trail run. Place is fully booked for the weekend and the restaurant wasn’t open for more than three hours on Friday and not at all on Saturday. There’s no place to eat on the mountain so you have to go to town. The last cable car down is at 7:30 and the gate closed for the road at seven or so, therefore you can’t wven get a taxi to town. Luckily there was a vending machine that sold over priced instant noodles and you can get hot water from your room.
So now on race day...I’m done the race and waiting for my friend to finish. The restaurant is closed, so I figure I would just eat instant noodles again and get hot water from the coffee shop. Well, they wouldn’t give me hot water so I offered to buy two cups of hot tea, but with no tea. Again, no dice. So now I’m laying on the floor waiting and eating crappy salty vending machine snacks, dying for a hot meal.
