We had a very comfortable stay. The bed was really comfortable. The location was excellent for walking in and out of Cardiff centre.
The room was clean and we were grateful for the fan. The freezer part of the fridge needed defrosting as the compartment door wasn’t shutting. Otherwise, very happy.

Great location but room for improvement
First impressions of the apartment was great but after a few nights few things did start being an annoyance.
Location is great and away from the noise and busyness of the city. 15mins walk to the castle and the centre of Cardiff including the train station. Apartment well equipped if you wanted to cook- I didn’t but was good to know that if I had wanted to it was available. Shower was nice and hot and had very good water pressure which I have learnt is rare in the UK.
After a few days staying though it was clear that there is things to improve on. The apartment was a sauna even with the outside temp being around 15 for the whole time. Windows open and fan didn’t do much to help. My apartment and bed also was directly next to the fire door to the lift and stairs and the door banged so loudly everyone someone went through it so had 2 nights being woken up at 1am. Also the bed was so uncomfortable as where the two twins zipped together the bed sunk a heap so you ended up rolling to that spot. You also could feel the zip and springs so much, time for a new mattress or a good topper when the double bed is in use. There was a strange light above the door which even though it had attempted to be covered over lite up the whole room all night. I also went to plug in something to charge in the PowerPoint in the dining room but noticed it was coming off the wall so that’s not very safe. The seal in the base of the shower was also coming off the wall so lots of water was getting down the side of the wall to when you used the shower.

The apartment overall was rundown and didn’t feel clean and tidy. The entrance to the apartment was not very clean. The laundry area looked dirty. There are separate door in a long hallway for each room and bathroom that need to stay closed that make coming in and out of the rooms very hard. Overall it could have been better for the price that you pay for the apartment.

Unsafe and unclean.
I am incredibly disappointed with my recent stay with The Spires Cardiff, in terms of safety, cleanliness and the facilities.
My issues were:
Access code changed without notice: The building access code was changed partway through my stay without any communication. I was left locked outside the property until I was eventually able to reach a member of staff by phone. Aside from the inconvenience, this raised serious concerns from a safety and security perspective.
Poor cleanliness: It was clear that the apartment had not been properly checked before my arrival. Several items of crockery and cutlery were still dirty with food residue, and there was fresh and partially eaten food left in the cupboards from previous guests.
Security concerns: On my first evening, someone repeatedly attempted to enter my room and access the key lock box outside the door, they tried for several minutes. The fact that there was no secondary lock, such as a door chain or latch, made me feel particularly vulnerable and unsafe.
Excessive noise: The soundproofing was extremely poor, particularly as my ground-floor room was located between the cleaning/supply cupboard and the office. In the mornings I was disturbed by staff arriving for work, and the noise was so clear that I could even hear both sides of telephone conversations.
Lack of ventilation and inadequate room facilities: The room had no windows, only a single external door that could only be fully open or fully closed. As the room was on the ground floor, I did not feel safe leaving the door open, as anyone from the street could have accessed the room. With no windows, no air conditioning, and no fan provided, there was effectively no safe means of ventilation, making the room extremely uncomfortable, particularly overnight.
When I emailed directly to the company with my complaints and concerns they never responded.

Unfortunately, the parking did present a problem having a large car. However reception were great and allowed us to park in an easier space. The room was smaller than expected. The window did not lock shut so had to be left open. The room could have done with a better clean as there were old crisps under the edge of the bed and when pulling back the duvet was a large clump of hair. The room was incredibly hot and although a fan was provided this proved to be pretty useless in cooling the room down and presented a trip hazard on one side of the bed. The best thing was the location. It was near where we needed to be.
