EXCELLENT apartment and a MUST visit
We visited the Funky Monk for our Wedding Anniversary. The decor and finishing touches were amazing. Even down to having decaf tea bags for when we came in from enjoying the delights of Durham. The door was opened by an app - so no messing with meeting people for a key. The bed was HUGE and very comfy. We loved the big copper bath. We also took our small dog and was perfect. Only a short walk to the bridge in Durham where we enjoyed so many great places to see, eat and experience.

Unpleasant
On first glance beautiful room, until we could smell the rubbish that was left under the sink. The rubbish was 2 days old according to the Dominos pizza box, disgusting!
My daughter was very excited by the huge bath, good job I’d didn’t want to use it as the hot water ran out half way filled.
Hot tub experience wasn’t pleasant in a dark yard with no working lightbulbs.
No Netflix, apps or way of streaming to the TV which I have never experienced before in this kind of “luxury” self catering stay at £300 for the night.
And to add, it wasn’t great that there was no air fryer or oven. Had to take our own for our New Year’s Eve picky tea we’d bought.
I contacted the Ramside group about my complaint before leaving a review, only to be ignored so just won’t book again or recommend to others.

Ok
First impressions the place was warm cosy and impressive but on closer examination it looks tired in places with paint chipped off and lots of surface dust lying around. In the far bedroom the curtains are hanging off the pole.
For a luxury accommodation I feel that 6 matching wine glasses plates mugs and flutes would be a basic expectation.
The hot tub area would benefit greatly from a light as it’s very dark and slippery with steps from the accommodation (The hot tub was a main reason for 6 of us to stay in this accommodation and justified paying more than others in the area) however it was very overfilled and after 2 of the party got into the tub the water overflowed and the electric went off meaning no lights or bubbles very disappointing.
Positive feedback was that the contact we had with staff at the Ramside hall was very good and the calls from them were appreciated to check everything was ok.
The abundance of tea coffee etc was great and the luxurious bedding towels and bathrobes were superb.
The whole place could be improved with some basic cleaning and better facilities considering the place sleeps six and only four chair at the dining table!

Great potential but needs a bit more effort/ attention to detail for the price
Nice interior design and very spacious with a huge and very comfy bed, plus the hot tub was lovely. Overall though not great, especially given the price and luxury billing, due to a lack of care/effort. We had no information on which room we had booked, two light bulbs were not working, the sofa was not clean, there was a half used bottle of conditioner in the shower and no hand soap. Add to this a plant that had to be carefully balanced when you draw the curtains and a toilet door that would only stay shut if you held it while on the loo and you can see why we were disappointed.
With a bit more attention to detail it could be fab. (Also towelling robes would be a lovely touch).

Overpriced - style, no substance
This is a unit that is all style and no substance.
It did not meet our expectations and feels way overpriced for the offering.
The bed was very large and comfy to lie on, however the heat in the room made the sleep experience was very poor. Made worse by noisy neighbours late into the night (the last being at 3.45am!)
No aircon or cooler in the room, doesn't fit a luxury billing!
There was a lack of basic crockery - had to request dishes for breakfast......arrived the next day! Overall the kitchenette was very poor equipped.
Patchy wifi plus flatscreen TV that would not open the Apps on screen (they are blocked!) - no Netflix or NowTV and couldn't screen share.
It did not meet our expectations and feels way overpriced for the offering.
