Good location- not with the price
We stayed at Lodge in the Vale in a family room with two adults and two children, aged 9 and 12.
There were several positives to our stay. The hotel is in a good location, and our family room was spacious with a lovely view from the window. The towels were nice, and the free parking was a definite bonus.
The location is also convenient for exploring the surrounding area. Keswick is around a 10-minute drive away, and during our stay we took a boat ride over to Hawes End and walked up Catbells. It was a beautiful walk and definitely one of the highlights of our trip.
There is also a sister pub about a 15-minute walk away which serves hot food. However, there is no proper path to the pub down the road, so we didn’t feel it was particularly suitable or safe for walking with younger children.
Unfortunately, there were quite a few negatives. The bathroom was very tired and looked like it needed refurbishment. There were signs of rust on the handles, the shelf was wonky and couldn’t really be used, and there was no shelving in the shower to put toiletries on. We were also surprised that there was no toilet seat lid.
The room was very warm, as there was no air conditioning. We had to leave the window open, but this meant we could hear traffic throughout the night, which wasn’t ideal for a good night’s sleep.
Another disappointment was the breakfast. There was no hot breakfast available, only a continental option, which we felt was expensive at £12 per adult and £6 per child. We decided to take our own snacks instead.
Overall, while the location, spacious family room, free parking and nearby attractions were all positives, we felt the hotel was overpriced for the standard of accommodation provided. At around £120 per night, we unfortunately didn’t feel it offered good value for money.
Sadly, we won’t be visiting Lodge in the Vale again. With some investment in updating the bathrooms, improving the facilities and offering a more reasonably priced breakfast, the experience could be much better.

Good hotel
Free parking and we had a lovely breakfast which we really enjoyed for continental. Coffee was lovely. Fruit, pastries, toasts, cheese , ham, cereal. Full English option at the sister pub down the road.
Good that the coffee shop is open for a drink till 9ish also serve cold drinks.
