clean spacious rooms great staff

an excellent stay from start to finish, room was exceptionally clean and very comfortable and spacious, the bar had a great atmosphere but the real star of the place are the owners, raj and his family go above and beyond to make sure guests feel welcome and have everything they need, friendliest staff i’ve experienced in a hotel to date, would return in a heartbeat

Horrible place - save yourself a big disappointment!

The worst place I’ve ever stayed, wasn’t even cheap! AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!
We stayed as was nearby to visit Cardiff University with my teens. Noisy, awful smell from the docks, worst of all was the smell of bleach in the bathroom (toxic!) and smell of weed/drugs in the corridors outside our room, TV really old/fuzzy picture, no facilities/meals (not even drinking water), literally just beds for the night, for £342 For two nights, you would expect more, daylight robbery considering. Did not stay for the second night! Booking.com nor the hotel reply to complaints/requests for refund of 2nd night we didn’t use. Will definitely NOT use either company again.

Hidden gem in the industrial docks of Newport

I stayed at the Waterloo Hotel as it was close to where I would be working for a couple of weeks. As soon as I arrived I was made to feel very welcome and was also upgraded and given a beautiful room with a four poster bed at no extra charge. The shower was great and the bath too and rhe rooms are clean and cosy. The staff are really lovely and very helpful. One evening I knocked over a glass of red wine in my room and after telling them it what happened and apologising, I was told not to worry about it. I went to work the following day and when I came back the stain had all been cleaned up. Also there's a car park behind the hotel, which is locked at 9.30pm and then reopened at 5.30am, which I found reassuring when leaving my vehicle in the area at night.

Didn't stay, still had to pay

Booked this so that my wife and I did not have to get up at silly o'clock to get to an 07.00 hospital appointment in Newport. Went via Booking.com which stated availability of free cancellation, so when the appointment was postponed two clear days before our reservation we tried to cancel but were told it was outside the window.
I'd have happily paid an admin fee to compensate the hotel, even though they'd have had a clear two days to re-let the room. However, I ended up paying the full whack; it did not surprise me to find that this hotel is actually in Newport's notorious red light district, so I suppose I ought not to be surprised at my treatment.

Disappointing Stay

We had a superior room and it was far from the truth, very basic. No food as no chef - but no alternatives (could work with the cafe opposite in the interim) due to not having any facilities in the room is only enough to make 1 cup of coffee each. The cafe wasn't open on the Sunday morning before we left so left very thirsty and hungry. The hotel isn't very welcoming and the TV is also very basic (not smart), especially when theirs nothing to so nearby.
