Avoid Charles House Guesthouse
We traveled three hours for what was supposed to be a relaxing overnight stay at Charles House, only to be locked out because the provided access code was invalid. After finally managing to track down the owner, we were bluntly told that they couldn't accommodate us for the night.
This happened despite the fact that we had already paid in advance and had explicit confirmation emails from both the host and our booking platform. Leaving guests completely stranded outside after a long journey is beyond unacceptable.
Fortunately, Expedia’s customer service was brilliant. They immediately stepped in to clean up Charles House's mess and rebooked us at the Sir Christopher Wren hotel. It ended up being a fantastic upgrade and even closer to the Castle, truly every cloud has a silver lining!
However, the way Charles House operates is an absolute disgrace. Zero reliability, terrible morals, and a complete breach of trust. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else.

Avoid at all costs,
After a three hour drive for our overnight stay at Charles House, we arrived to find our door code didn't work. When we finally managed to get hold of the host, she casually informed us that she "could not accommodate us" for the evening.
To be completely clear: we had already paid in full and held written confirmations from both Expedia and the property itself. To leave paying guests stranded on the doorstep after a long journey with zero prior notice is utterly disgraceful.
Thankfully, Expedia stepped up where Charles House failed and rescued our trip by relocating us to the fantastic Sir Christopher Wren hotel, which turned out to be an infinitely better property even closer to the Castle. A silver lining for us, but it doesn't excuse the sheer incompetence of our original booking.
As for Charles House: absolute shame on you. Shocking communication, zero business ethics, and complete bad faith. Save yourself the stress and stay anywhere else.
