Modern Luxury and Strong Dining
I recently spent four nights at the IC Taichung in the spacious Midtown Suite and found it to be a genuinely comfortable, high-tech home base in the heart of the city. The property’s modern design, combined with thoughtful service and standout culinary offerings, made for one of my best IC stays worldwide.
Location
Situated at No. 77 Guanqian Road in West District, the hotel overlooks the scenic Calligraphy Greenway in a green, vibrant area. It is exceptionally convenient, with Sogo department store and various shops just a short walk away, alongside the National Museum of Natural Science and plenty of local restaurants. Everything felt accessible on foot, allowing easy exploration without needing transport.
Room
The suite impressed with its generous size, modern elegance with hints of contemporary French elements, and high-tech features. It provided a very comfortable stay that suited both relaxation and work needs.
Club Lounge & Dining
Club Intercontinental, located on the 17th floor, offered superior views of the cityscape compared to the Kaohsiung property. The lounge featured an exclusive lobster congee at breakfast that became my daily favorite. Lobby lounge desserts were exceptional; I sampled nearly the entire selection, from lavender cheesecake to strawberry mousse. These were among the highest-quality, most aesthetically pleasing sweets I’ve enjoyed recently, justifying the premium prices when compared to similar offerings I had in Paris. The main breakfast buffet provided broader diversity, highlighted by the unique oolong tea ice cream that I made special trips downstairs for. While the restaurant’s overall food quality was satisfactory (not quite matching Kaohsiung or Regent Taipei), the Club options captured the best items effectively. Service in the Club was more attentive during breakfast but could feel hit-or-miss in the evenings, though proactive staff like Eugene stood out positively.
Wellness
Wellness facilities include a beautiful outdoor pool set in a garden, paired with a heated jacuzzi—ideal for relaxation. The gym is compact yet clean and well-maintained. A notable quirk: the sauna is in the male changing room and the steam room in the female, with minimal vanity items in the male area. The hotel does not offer in-house massages but provides recommendations for nearby spas within reasonable walking distance. While not as comprehensive as the Kaohsiung property, it still offered adequate space to unwind and exercise.
Service
Check-in was seamless, with the door person efficiently managing luggage upon arrival. Overall service maintained a professional and high standard consistent with the brand.
Verdict
InterContinental Taichung excels as a modern, well-maintained luxury hotel with excellent location, spacious accommodations, and particularly memorable dining experiences. It holds its own as a top-ranked property within the InterContinental portfolio—both it and the Kaohsiung sister property deliver strong experiences with their own strengths. I would happily return for future stays in Taichung.

Good choice for leisure or work
Was told by locals this is the latest international hotel to be set up in Taichung and indeed everything is superb.
The hotel is located next to a park in which a small market is located during weekends and the hotel is also close to a mall.
The room is modern and bright. However 2 aspects I did not like about the layout of the room is that the bed is located just steps away from main door which is very rare and the toilet is located not in the same “area” as the shower which means if you are to go to the toilet , you need to cut across the sleeping area to reach the shower area which I felt was really weird. The layout of the cabinet is also awkwardly “cornered” which making opening and closing a challenge. Otherwise the room is comfortable.
What stood out for me is the executive lounge in terms of service and quality of food served during cocktail hours . The executive lounge located on 17th floor to me has to be the highlight with excellent services by the team and interestingly the toilet comes with Hermes hand soap.
Breakfast spread at the cafe as well as the executive lounge is excellent not forgetting the lobster congee at the executive lounge. Throughout my stay I can say that every staff came across as approachable and well trained.
On the negative side, I would say the outdoor pool is not conducive for “real” swim and the layout does not ensure good sunlight if you want to have a tan.
Overall a very good hotel either for work or leisure.

A new hotel that opened late 2024. Just beside Parklane Eslite and many restaurants like 12 Moon
Modern lobby but the check in staff seem to prioritise being on their workphones rather than attending to in person guests
The room is medium sized and bathroom has 2 sinks which is great. Plus Byredo toiletries. Tv has CNN, which is great
The gym is tiny which is a letdown

Exceptional Stay!
Our stay at InterContinental Taichung was nothing short of exceptional. Although it was a short visit, it left us with wonderful memories that we will always cherish.
Our room was superb—immaculately clean, spacious, equipped with AI-powered controls, and thoughtfully furnished with high-end amenities that made our stay incredibly comfortable. Every detail reflected the hotel's commitment to luxury and guest satisfaction.
A special thank you for the thoughtful welcome amenities, personally delivered by the lovely intern, Rose. Her warm smile and genuine hospitality made us feel truly welcomed from the very beginning.
One of the highlights of our stay was the dining experience. Breakfast at Il Limone offered an impressive selection of delicious dishes, fresh ingredients, and the opportunity to make our own freshly squeezed juices. The egg tarts were simply outstanding. We also enjoyed one of the best dinners we had in Taichung. What we appreciated most was the peaceful atmosphere—we could enjoy every meal without unnecessary noise or the constant clatter of utensils, making every dining experience relaxing and enjoyable.
The service throughout the hotel was impeccable. Every member of the staff was courteous, professional, attentive, and genuinely polite. We would also like to extend our appreciation to the room attendant who thoughtfully organized my mobile phone charger. It may seem like a small gesture, but it's these thoughtful details that make a significant difference and show the genuine care the team has for its guests.
