The next stay is already planned.
This is where you feel welcome. The reception is warm and not put on. The hotel is small but nice and family-run, the rooms are spacious (4 ), clean and cosy. In the morning a rich breakfast awaits you, lovingly arranged. We always like to come here. It is the ideal starting point for hiking or cycling. Just opposite you will find the thermal baths

Ein stilles Juwel in Bad Schandau
The Albergo Toscana is very special.
A large villa renovated in Mediterranean style with high rooms, pleasantly cool even in summer heat. Located directly on the rocks of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. The rooms are minimalist in a positive sense: reduced to the essentials. Important: the beds offer high quality sleep. And from the road to the Czech Republic that passes under our windows, we only noticed a little at night. Well isolated, then.
The Service very personal and dedicated. You can feel at every turn that this is a family business, owner-managed and with a lot of love for the cause.
This is especially true for the breakfast buffet. We have never seen this so rich and versatile in all these years. Every morning there is some small culinary specialty; and the staff “cares” for the guests literally, asking for extra requests. This is top quality!! In appropriate weather, it is particularly nice to be able to have breakfast outdoors.
The icing on the cake: the bus stop of Bad Schandauer Rundlinie 252 is only 60m away. We have used them repeatedly and gladly in the two weeks here.

The breakfast was fantastic with a great selection. The staff was super nice. Beautifully decorated and very spacious. The hotel far exceeded our expectations.

A bit of Italy in southeast Germany
An excellent little hotel which, on the outside, really makes you believe that you have come to Toscana. The inside too is cosy and stylish. We had the "garden suite", a small separate house, situated at "first floor level" behind the hotel's other building to the left, Villa Bohemia. That, too, was Italian style with lots of space and big windows facing the little peaceful garden bordered on one side by the vertical rock that runs along the town.
Breakfast was very good and so was the overall service. Staff is accomodating and helpful.
There is a lot of beauty in the area - and those with a hang for walking, also rather steep paths, will not be disappointed. Both in the vicinity and at places farther away. Old castles with extensive exhibitions are there, with Königstein at the top, both litterally speaking and in terms of extension. Parking, i must add, is a money-machine. Both there and at Bastei there is a one-hour price, but then it jumps up to min. four hours. We spent 2,5 at Königstein and 2 at Bastei. Such a rip-off really also makes you believe that you are in Toscana - or Italy in general. Eight Euro is not a fortune, but as a tourist you are spending money all the time, including the entry tickets themselves.
The dozen old paddle-steamers plying the Elbe river are worth a ride. Some departures from Bad Schandau, including an early evening one going eastward into Czeck Republic (without berthing there).
Gastronomy in Bad Schandau will not take you as high as the pillar rocks in the area. I think they have not quite got over the DDR-time compared with places in western Germany. Schnitzels and similar with pommes are of course a main feature, though there are other options too. In a decent place very near the church we had Forellen mit Salzkartoffeln. A very thin filet and potatoes, very much from last year, cut in twos and threes. But also in an alley near the church tower is a very good oriental restaurant owned by a Vietnamese familiy. The meny counts at least a 100 dishes, chinese, thai and vietnamese, and the service is good. The best "international place", as we saw it, is restaurant Tilia in Hotel Lindenhof, near the town park. They had game, fish soup, filet of beef and a few things "with a twist" on the meny.
All in all a pleasant five day stay just a day's drive from Denmark - and many other places.
