Stay of no return
Old worn-out rooms. Bulky waste as decoration in the hallways. Antique furniture in the restaurant.
Dinner good, however, the portions are not only ridiculous for a hiker. Wine selection good. Breakfast nothing special. Garni Standard. Totally uninspired.
An operator who is not a hotelier by character. Everything is far too obviously designed to maximize profits. Bottom line: not worth the money. As with all the junk in the rooms and in the house and with the overall frosty service a 4 star classification comes about, is a mystery to me. Come back ruled out.

Successful all round
In a secluded valley on a small stream in the middle of the Eifel towards Belgium; surrounded by easily manageable hiking trails (some not always well signposted; Komoot or similar is recommended), several small ponds and very close (about 1.5 km) to the monastery of Himmerod.
the hotel:
Beautiful, venerable building, a former arch hut with stylish Mood. An absolute highlight is the wellness area (outside) with a new Nordic sauna hut (wood-fired) directly at the natural pond and a pavilion for relaxation with an outdoor terrace.
Rooms:
Our room (except for the cheapest category everything was fully booked) was absolutely fine; top clean, bed with good mattress, wooden floor and separate bathroom incl. (small) shower.
the cuisine:
The menu was smart, without exception very delicious and with good ingredients; a very big praise also to the flexibility of the kitchen (gluten-free and vegetarian no problem at all). We have been to many houses (Germany, Switzerland), but the performance of the kitchen here is (in this price segment) almost incomparably awesome.
Bonus: good wine list (Germany, France and - what I personally don't need - also overseas) and a cosy fireplace room with an open fire.
the Service:
Very friendly, attentive but not intrusive. Again, high praise.
Summary:
We will definitely come back; really recommended.

Very nice wellness hotel in the Eifel
The sauna directly on the lake to cool off is a real highlight and otherwise there is a lot to offer in terms of wellness! There are very nice hiking trails. The 4-course menu in the evening and also the breakfast offer abundant and delicious selection. Above all, the Service is exemplary and very responsive! Thank you so much!
