This historic hotel is in the centre of Grünwald. It offers free parking as well as panoramic views of the Isar valley from the terrace and rooms. The Schlosshotel Grünwald was built in 1293 as a hunting lodge.

Cozy hotel with nice traditional restaurant
Stayed here for one night on business in January. Traditional Bavarian decor, clean, sizable rooms (mine had a living room and bedroom). Typical for Germany the kind bed has two separate mattresses. The breakfast was decent, but the dinner in the house restaurant was very good. Centrally located next to the former hunting castle

Renovation jam clearly visible – unfortunately not recommended
Unfortunately not recommended at all. The room was old and worn out, the furniture ancient, the carpet full of stains – both in the hallway and in the room. It was frankly uncomfortable walking barefoot. There was black hair on the bed linen that was certainly not ours, and the bathroom door frame was “fixed” with grey tape – a rather improvised impression.
The shower cubicle was leaking, after showering half the bathroom was flooded. The windows were old and not tight, you can hear and feel everything from outside.
The breakfast was also disappointing: hardly any choice, wavy cheese, unlovingly presented. The egg dishes made to order were okay, but they couldn't save the overall impression.
All in all: very much in need of renovation and in this state not recommended.

It is not easy to hire dedicated staff
The food, especially the fish, is excellent. The service is disinterested.
You have to wait longer to place your order. Here it's not about the order but about interest in the guest.
When eating, you wait in vain for the wine to be refilled from the bottle, overall the service is rather disinterested in its guests. That doesn't excuse it, even with a good chef who does his best.
Considering the prices, you wait in vain for excellent service. They put away the cutlery very early to show that it's time to go.
It doesn't get any louder, so you'd rather stay at home or order the food to pick it up. If you're lucky, you'll get everything you ordered. This shows you once again that three restaurants can't be controlled by one. It's a shame about the good quality.

Great for Italians who don't speak English
The strong point of this hotel is the totally Italian management: everyone speaks at least a little of the Italian language, so those who don't speak English will have no problems.
Spectacular view of the river from the room. Small room. opulent but in need of some modernization: old and not very functional furniture, very uncomfortable cushions. At night the room becomes suffocating, in the morning it is very humid due to the proximity to the river.
The reception needs improvement: friendly and very helpful staff, but unprepared in providing information and assistance. We asked for some information on how to reach Munich and the answers were very incomplete. We were advised to take public transport even though we needed to arrive by car, we didn't know anything about the green sticker needed to enter the centre, on a work request about where to find some material for the vacuum. We had to make do.
Sad breakfast: Italian products, yes, but industrial ones. To eat the eggs you had to guess the moment in which the cook was present in the time slot dedicated to breakfast.
Given the prices in Munich it was an excellent base booked at the last minute and affordable. It's very convenient to go to the city, but you also need a car to reach public transport (the walk is uphill on hairpin bends).
Going back and having the opportunity to book early, I wouldn't stay here again.

Watch out because of dishonest staff
We arrived late evening with a confirmation of our reservation for a room.
Once there we were informed there was no room available, we would not get a refund of our money and the reservation error was not their problem but ours :)
Staff is not able to give any polite information in English and kept on rambling Italian to us which we do not understand. The man at the reception was sighing the whole time, called us ignorant and was simply impolite and rude as well as the 3 other persons who were there but of no help at all. They talk about you in Italian while you are standing at the desk, which does not feel comfortable, and yes we do understand some words, and left us waiting and waiting.
Finally, we asked to call their manager or boss muliple times to receive a refund and any explanation, which after an hour the staff eventually agreed on after trying everything to avoid this.
We were ready to call the police because we were denied any sort of refund. We had the feeling we were robbed because we found ourselves with no place to stay and eat (we had a reservation at the restaurant as well), a room we did pay for and no possibility to get our money back.
They simply told us no and have no problems shouting at their customers.
We have travelled around the world and never encountered this kind of incompetence and impoliteness.
After all, we were glad we found another place to stay, which was clean and had friendly service, unlike this hotel.
