Stay was good, complaint management was disappointing.
We stayed as a family for one night with half board at this hotel. I would like to highlight positively that it was possible to have an overnight stay for just one night, including dinner and breakfast. Unfortunately, you do not find that often these days. The hotel itself is classically and well-maintained, the pool area was very pleasing to us, and especially for older guests, this establishment is certainly a good choice.
Unfortunately, several things went wrong during our stay, which significantly tarnished the overall impression.
When booking through the hotel's own website, I consciously chose a larger room and explicitly stated that we were traveling with a child and needed a crib. It was not mentioned in advance that there would be additional costs for this. On-site, an extra charge of 40 euros was applied. Our concern was less about the amount itself and more about the lack of transparency.
It was also disappointing that our child was neither considered for dinner despite the extra charge nor received an appropriate selection. We could not combine any of the offered menus, and even a simple portion of fries for the child was charged extra.
There were also inconsistencies during check-in and check-out. Despite online check-in and specifying a desired arrival time of 2 PM, we could only access our room around 4 PM. At check-out, we were repeatedly reminded to leave the room, even though our children were still sleeping. At the same time, a late check-out appeared on the bill, which we initially had to discuss.
What ultimately disappointed us the most was not the bill itself, but the handling of the points raised. In the end, amounts were discussed that made up only a very small portion of the total bill. Instead of a customer-oriented solution or at least an understanding of our perspective, there was repeatedly reference to increased costs and the economic pressure of hotel operations. Statements like "we are not a discount hotel" felt unhelpful in this situation.
From our perspective, the situation could have been resolved much more comfortably – for example, through a simple apology for the misleading presentation on the website or through a small gesture of appreciation. We were never focused on saving individual amounts of money, but rather on transparency, fairness, and a professional interaction with one another.
Only when the hotel manager was brought in could the situation be clarified. Unfortunately, the last impression often remains the strongest in memory.
Overall, we had a pleasant stay, and the hotel has many strengths. Due to the points mentioned, I can currently only award 3 stars. As a hotel tester, I will temporarily remove this establishment from my recommendation portfolio and initially direct travel groups to other hotels.

Highly recommended hotel!
The breakfast buffet offers everything and is plentiful. The food at Hubertusklause is excellent.

Relaxing days at Hotel Freese on Juist.
Although the hotel is somewhat dated, which can be seen in the decor in some places, this is more than compensated for by the warm hospitality and the great commitment of the team. You can tell that the staff and hotel management place a high value on providing their guests with a pleasant stay.
The rooms were clean, the service was friendly and attentive, and the location is a good starting point for exploring the island. We particularly appreciated the personal and uncomplicated atmosphere.
Those who do not expect a high-end luxury hotel but rather a place with charm, friendly service, and genuine hospitality will certainly feel at home here. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would be happy to return.
