Small gasthaus outside Freiburg

We chose not to sleep in Freiburg to enjoy the tranquility of the out door. The village is not far from the city and is surrounded by fields. The property has parking right in front. Our room had to do with the balcony. The property is not brand new but clean and well maintained. Free Wi-Fi, private bathroom. The host is very efficient with communication. Info on how to access move are clear and timely. Some cadeux left for guests. Thank you.

Practical and inexpensive. Booking the rooms directly with the landlady is recommended.

Booking via Check24, which Check24 carried out via Booking.com, sometimes went wrong. The landlady wrote back to us via Booking.com. Since we booked through Check24, we didn't receive the message.
The hotel and restaurant itself is closed, but 8 rooms are rented “privately”. Fortunately, the landlady was present when we arrived and got us the key from the key box. Unfortunately we did not receive the code via message via Booking.com.
I recommend booking directly with the landlady, then she also has the contact details and details can be discussed directly.
The rooms are clean and functionally furnished. Parking spaces are available. Dirty hiking boots must be removed at the entrance to the house.

Great food and company - rooms and decor in the restaurant a bit dated but clean

The Gasthof Keller is in a quiet side street in an area with new as well as historical buildings. Next door is a winery which hosts "full moon" events every month.
If you are looking for good wholesome fare and tender meet for very reasonable prices, Keller's is the place to go. A very tender and tasty filet of beef with chanterelles, fries and a mixed salad is on the menu for EUR16. There is also a small terrasse where you can have a drink or your meal. The rooms are simple and clean but certainly not romantic and could do with a bit of updating. If the restaurant is closed, the key is marked with a name tag and placed near the entrance. I found Barbara and Eric Keller to be very friendly, warm hosts with many different interests. Merdingen is a small sleepy town, so do not expect much in the form of entertainment of an evening. However, the village now boasts a supermarket open until 10 pm.

Accomodation and dinner

Beautiful Gasthof Keller - welcoming, efficient, warm service at checkin and dinner. Rooms were big, airy and clean. Dinner was wonderful - excellent steak and french fries (I had my fillet steak topped with loads of chanterelles - amazing!). In a lovely neighbourhood with lots wineries too.

Disappointing Quiet Guesthouse

Arriving with a crowd of friends we found no welcome, an empty house and room keys left on a tray inside. The whole village seemed to be asleep on the afternoon of Thursday 1st June. Nobody to ask about anything, we just helped ourselves, made ourselves a comfortable as we could and went out to the only place we could find open for food in the whole village. The guesthouse was tired and in need of redecorating, new carpets and modernising since the 1960's. In the morning we come down to meet someone we assume was the owner or caretaker who took no interest in anything at all despite the fact that we were all dressed in identical cycling gear. No friendly chit chat at all. So we ate and left.
