Very nice and at a beautiful place
We've been several times with the family and some friends in this youth hostel and we really enjoyed every time the facility with all its benefits. It is very close to the lake, it has its own parking places and is kids friendly. If you stay there you have the option to walk for hours along the lake and swim even in the late evening hours without the crowd all around you. You can bike south and north, you can prepare your own barbecue infront and kick football on the nearby pitch. You can play beach volleyball or frisbee and let your child play on the beautiful playground nearby.
As the youth hostel is very popular I recommend you to book in advance, otherwise you'll probably never get the chance to get a free room, especially if you want a family one.
Also the you shall probably better book half-board as there are not so many options around to get food, unless you want to bike or walk for some half an hour.
The food is not great, but good enough to survive for few days and kids have fun.

Accomodated me during the best Holiday of my life
I stayed at the Jugendherberge Possenhofen as part of the Internstional Youth Camp, and it's safe to say, that this was the perfect accomodation. It is located within a 2 minute walk of the beautiful Starnberger See, which has clear waters and wonderful views. Also there is a grassland area which accommodates a beach volleyball court and provides a nice area to spend your afternoon in the sun. The Jugendherberge staff were friendly and welcoming and they always catered to our needs efficiently and with professionalism. The Jugendherberge has a free WiFi zone and vending machines to purchase snacks between meals.
The rooms provide a stay of sufficient quality for the night, and lockers are provided to store your valuables throughout the day with a 2€ deposit
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here and would definitely return here again in the near future!

Affordable Oktoberfest stay
Starting about 4 months prior to our 1-night stay in Munich, we were looking for cheap lodging (one of our travelling companions was flying out of Munich the next morning). Because prices get *so* jacked up during Oktoberfect, we weren't having a lot of luck, but did eventually find a room for 3 adults at this suburban youth hostel. There was an Oktoberfest surcharge of 3 euro/pp/night but this is *much* less than the doubling or tripling of rates that is typical for that time of year.
The hostel staff were very accomodating with keeping the 4th bed empty for us (ie, private room ensuite) and were generally very friendly. Everything else was typically German youth hostel (make your own beds, bring down the sheets). Decent variety of breakfast foods. The setting is really lovely, being right on a small lake and surrounded by woods (an upscale suburb, houses separated and private with large lots). Very quiet. The S-Bahn station is 15-minute walk along wooded footpath. 45-minute train ride to downtown.

Schlicht und gut
Wer zur Wiesn günstig eine Unterkunft sucht ist hier genau richtig. Die Zimmer sind schlicht mit Doppelstockbetten und ohne TV. Frühstück ist gut und die Rezeption sehr hilfsbereit. Parkplätze vorhanden und um das Gebäude herrscht eine ruhige Atmosphäre. Von hier kommt man mit kurzem Fußmarsch zur S-Bahn, mit der man die Hackerbrücke in 45 min Fahrzeit erreicht hat.

Schöne Lage und angenehme Jugendherbergsatmosphäre
Die Jugendherberge zeichnet sich vor allem durch ihre besondere Lage aus. Es sind nur ein paar Hundert Meter bis zum Starnberger See. Jene ist umgeben von der Natur. Die Tagungsräume sind sehr schön und hell, da mit großer Fensterfront. Allerdings ist die Ausstattung nicht sehr modern, jedoch tauglich für eine Präsentation oder ähnliches.
Das Essen ist meist eher mehr Soße als alles andere. Leider schmeckt es mir persönlich nicht. Das Frühstück hingegen ist für eine Jugendherberge ausgewogen und gut.
Die Zimmer sind sehr gut geschnitten und na ja typisch für eine Jugendherberge. Praktisch ist, dass Waschbecken in den Mehrbettzimmern vorhanden sind.
Im Allgemeinen lohnt es sich für einen Gruppenausflug nach Possenhofen zu kommen.
