An extraordinary retreat with great potential....
My daughter from Munich made me aware of the new Chiemgauhof, so I booked two suites for our family without high expectations of the retreat. We flew to Salzburg and were at the hotel in 30 minutes from there, surprisingly uncomplicated. Yes, the location right by the lake and the daily fantastic sunsets are certainly the highlight of the establishment and are also rare in Bavaria..... In addition, the house designed by Matteo Thun, completely oriented towards the lake, is made of regional natural materials such as wood, stone, and glass. This created a feel-good atmosphere that pleasantly surprised us. The modern interior, filled with a lot of art and wonderful fabrics, fit perfectly in the suites, and we greatly enjoyed our stay. Therefore, I was not further surprised that the resort was placed on the list of "the most beautiful hotels in the world 2026." We particularly recommend both the Garden Suite with its own terrace and direct access to the lake, as well as the Royal Suite with a large balcony, fireplace, and sauna; in our opinion, the price-performance ratio is also right.
The main restaurant and the sushi restaurant in the bar complement each other excellently, which was especially evident from the excellent occupancy, including that of external guests. The service staff, especially the resident manager Louis Steinle, took great care of us. Especially because we have a global insight into top hospitality, we can say that this establishment has a bright future ahead; we will definitely return to this place of hospitality...

Luxurious gem on Lake Chiemsee
Why I would recommend this hotel: One of the finest luxury lake resorts in the German-speaking world
Location & views:
Chiemgauhof is a true gem on Lake Chiemsee and one of the most impressive ultra-luxury resorts I have experienced in the German-speaking world. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat directly on the lake with the highest standards of luxury, this is the place to be. The hotel enjoys a spectacular location with panoramic views over the lake and the mountains in the background. It is only a few minutes from the motorway yet feels completely secluded. The arrival area is nicely landscaped and immediately sets the tone for the stay.
Check-in:
The arrival experience was exceptional. Instead of checking in at a traditional reception desk, the formalities were completed in the lobby lounge/bar while we were invited to enjoy a welcome drink. It created a relaxed and personal atmosphere from the very beginning. The staff took plenty of time to show the entire property and escorted us to the room, making it easy to become familiar with the hotel.
Room:
The room was beautifully designed with a warm residential feel that perfectly matches the character of the hotel. Every detail has clearly been considered, from the premium materials to the automatic night light integrated into the bed. The bed itself was exceptionally comfortable and the bathroom offered stunning views of the lake. The only small criticism would be that the bathtub looked slightly worn and did not quite match the otherwise immaculate design. The amenities were of the highest quality and deserve special mention, as does the complimentary minibar which is regularly replenished with drinks and delicious snacks. Overall, this is an outstanding room that feels luxurious without sacrificing comfort.
Hotel facilities:
The hotel offers everything you could wish for in a luxury resort. There is a beautiful outdoor pool, stylish saunas, peaceful relaxation rooms, a high-end (Technogym) fitness centre and countless comfortable seating and lounging areas throughout the property. Since the hotel is also popular with day visitors, dedicated areas are reserved exclusively for hotel guests, allowing for a peaceful and private atmosphere. The beautifully maintained gardens complete the experience and the staff make you feel more like a guest in a private home than in a hotel.
Restaurant:
Both the food and drinks were outstanding throughout my stay. The service was warm, attentive and genuinely welcoming. The cuisine has a slightly rustic touch while maintaining a refined presentation. Breakfast was one of the highlights of the entire stay. Rather than offering a huge buffet, the hotel combines a small self-service buffet with an extensive à la carte menu. Every dish I tried was beautifully presented and prepared to a very high standard. The crepes were excellent, the fresh fish was outstanding and the overall quality easily exceeded my expectations.
Overall:
If you are looking for a luxurious getaway on one of Germany's most beautiful lakes and appreciate a hotel that combines exceptional design with the feeling of being at home, Chiemgauhof is an outstanding choice. The entire team delivers first-class service and the hotel manager deserves special recognition for creating such a welcoming atmosphere. This is a truly special property and one that I will happily return to.

Perfect luxury in a stylish ambience right on the lake
This fine, luxurious hotel has only 28 rooms. From check-in to the last good bye at check-out you are so politely and nicely ensnared. The staff are fantastic. Food excellent in all areas. Sushi at the bar or star cuisine at the restaurant. Instead of a full and crowded breakfast buffet, there is a breakfast menu from which you can order all dishes. These are then served at the table. These breakfasts were the best we've had in all the hotels in years. The entire hotel is stylish, yet very cozy. The location directly on Lake Chiemsee is beautiful and in summer with its own lake access certainly quite wonderful. We had a so-called Chiemsee suite overlooking the lake. Very spacious suite with lots of luxury. The hotel has shown its best side with us and we can only recommend it. On the departure to check-out our car was still sucked out quickly - you don't often experience this. It's standard here, though.

Our experience at the Hotel Chiemgauerhof - Three days of pure perfection on Lake Chiemsee
We spent our anniversary at the Chiemgauerhof and stayed two nights in the Chiemsee Royal Suite - and what can you say: We regularly travel to 5 star hotels across Europe, but what's on offer here surpasses anything.
Even the arrival was an experience. Even before we got out of the car, we were already warmly welcomed by two employees. The check-in was completely stress-free - no paperwork, no signatures, but simply an aperitif, while only briefly handing in identity cards and credit card. We have never seen a check-in so relaxed and stylish.
The Chiemsee Royal Suite combines cosiness and attention to detail with pure luxury. You immediately notice that only the highest quality materials were used here. The design is modern, warm and perfectly coordinated - a suite that makes you feel right at home.
Culinary, the hotel is at star level. Dinner in particular is reminiscent of a 2–3 star fine dining restaurant – in positive contrast, with large portions, perfect taste and creative presentation. The currently earned Michelin star will surely be revised upwards soon.
The entire team deserves our utmost respect. Here, however, five to seven employees feel they never intrusively take care of a guest, but with just the right mixture of distance, attention, friendliness and reliability. So much professionalism and warmth at once is extraordinary.
During our stay, we also had a vernissage with a nationally renowned artist who presented her works in person and told her story - a wonderful cultural highlight.
The pool and wellness area is beautifully designed and invites you to relax. The only small criticism: The sauna is a bit away from the relaxation area and the pool - but that is really complaining at the highest level.
The location directly on Lake Chiemsee is priceless - less than ten meters from the water. Here you can feel at every moment that the happiness and satisfaction of the guests are the focus.
Our personal conclusion:
The Chiemgauerhof is no ordinary hotel, but a place to arrive, enjoy and marvel. We will definitely come back. For us it is by far the best hotel for a short trip of two to four days.
