The Old Borough hotel rooms are above a bar, but despite being a Thursday evening, the rooms were quite quiet. They are away from the drinking customers. They were clean, the staff were courteous and helpful. You go to the bar to check in, and that seemed strange at first, but worked just fine. The clerk offered to book us a taxi for the next morning and the taxi arrived early, which was great. The only difficulty was the lack of parking for checking in, as we first checked in before dropping our rental car off. The parking lot was totally jam packed with bar/restaurant guests. There was no place reserved for hotel guests to park and check in. We got it worked out, but it was very stressful, and included me having to make maybe a 9-point turn to re-orient the car. It also included two random passers-by volunteering to help coordinate the traffic. I'm not kidding! Those two were so nice and helpful!! We left too early to sample breakfast.

The people are lovely

We recently stayed at The Old Borough Hotel (Wetherspoon) in Swords, Ireland. We booked a double, twin room. It was slightly larger than expected and was relatively newly renovated, quite tastefully. However, room 105 only had a skylight (it opened), and it also had blind that could close the room off in pitch darkness. I would have preferred a room with a window that can be opened. Their marketing never mentions that most of the rooms only have skylights and no windows. The room was stuffy and the skylight walls had mold on them. We asked for another room but sadly they were sold out. Thankfully, we were only there for one night because I am allergic to mold and a second night would have made me sick (stuffy nose, dry throat). I am also annoyed that there are not regular checks for quality in most hotels (i.e., all lightbulbs work) and this place was no different. There was a light out in the bathroom which made makeup application extremely difficult. The bathroom doesn’t have an outlet for the blowdryer, you have to dry your hair in the bedroom, which doesn’t have sufficient lighting near any of the mirrors (also making makeup application difficult). The bathroom does have a heated towel rack but there is absolutely no way to turn it on! There is no coffee maker in the room, only instant coffee/tea, and a kettle. There is no safe, nor is there a mini refrigerator.
We had little interaction with staff, but what we did was extremely pleasant.

Was not a good experience, the room was just ok. The TV didn’t work, the WiFi didn’t work - there was nobody to contact to highlight this - no reception area. For £110 for bed only this was a truly very poor experience, will not be staying here again!

Chose this location for proximity to the airport for an early departure. If you’re brining luggage in to organize, it’s extremely inconvenient. No parking -(spaces are all taken by employees). Sketchy dark pay lot close by.
Check in is carrying luggage thru a crowded bar, and trying to get the attention of a bartender.
Then carry the bags up flights of stairs , again thru a crowded bar.
If you’re looking for convenience, check elsewhere.

difficult to find anyone related to the hotel. The staff was tied up with the resturant and pub.
