***** Surprisingly Amazing Hotel, Luxuries Rooms, Fantastic Breakfast *****
On my recent business visit to Coimbatore, I was searching hotels and suddenly I came across the hotel “Merlis”. I found it is very newly built and immediately got attracted to the fresh pictures it has posted online. Not to my surprise, I found the hotel exactly same as shown in the pictures. Each and every corner of the hotel was pristine clean, shinning floors and utmost dedicated cleaning staff. From the time of my check-in till checkout the staff of the hotel made my stay so comfortable that from now on Merlis will always be my choice for my stay in Coimbatore. I truly love the ambience, comfort, luxury, care, personalisation that this place offers.
Room:
I was upgraded to a airport view room by hotel compliments and my room was on the top floor. I had one of the best rooms and best views hotel can offer. The room opens up welcoming you with high end furniture in subtle beige and cream tones with golden steel lining giving that luxury feeling all around. The living room has a sofa setup and also a work desk, the room can easily hold a meeting of 4-5 people or just use it to comfort yourself by end of a tiring work day.
The room also has a dining table for 4 which had welcome amenities for me before I arrived. The living room has its own powder washroom which is very convenient in a suite room setup.
The main bedroom has a very comfortable King size bed and large LED Tv which is perfect for lazing out or for your morning news hour with your bedside tea. The bedroom also bosses two chairs and a coffee table near the glass window which is an ideal spot for aviation geeks or plane spotters. This setup provided the perfect balance of togetherness and comfort for business or couples or even a small family. It was very spacious, very modern and with all sorts of latest features. Electronic safe, Hair Dryer, Deep Sink water tub, Pillow Menu, Iron and Ironing Board, Loaded Minibar are some features which deserves to be mentioned.
Bathroom:
The bathroom was superb in sized. It had separate glass enclosures for WC and bathing areas. The bathroom had one of the biggest rain showers I saw in recent days. The bathroom also features a deep sink tub which can be very useful to get yourself relaxed after a long ay of work.
Another great feature of the bathroom was a big closet area with lots of storage options. The space was enough for even a week-long stay. Bathing temperature and water pressure were perfect to suit all your needs.
Gym / Swimming pool:
The property has a decent sized swimming pool with few day beds. The his and her changing rooms gives the added privacy one requires. The gym is having all modern equipment’s from “Life fitness” and also had a trainer on both days of my visit. The view from cardio section for the pool and lawn is soothing and inviting.
Food:
The hotel has an excellent buffet serving. I enjoyed so many delicacies during breakfast. There are options for each age and taste, and in other case if you still want something else, the chefs are more than keen to help you out.
I ordered food in my room from room service. The food was served delicately to my room and it was served hot with love and care.
I would like to also mention about the restro bar “ORIGYN”. The theme of the restaurant was truly international and vibes were inviting. I was just missing out on a good cricket match / football final to be able to spend some endless grooving time in the same.

Very Good Experience
We enjoyed food, spread was good, Mr.Vasanth helped us and treated us well, overall very good experience

Lovely Property, But Several Issues During Our Engagement Event
Our recent experience at Merlis was quite disappointing, especially considering the standards and pricing of the property.
There are definitely some positives. The rooms are beautiful and well-maintained (except for the broken bathtub), and the food at the restaurant was genuinely good. The Head Chef also recommended adding their cranberry butterscotch kheer to our event menu, which was excellent. However, unfortunately, the food served during the function did not live up to the same standard as what we experienced at the restaurant!!
We had booked the hotel’s Banquet Hall for an engagement function and had taken a couple of rooms for the previous night. There were several issues throughout the event that left our family very disappointed. The hall was handed over very, very late at night, which significantly delayed the décor. The décor team had to wait for a long time and eventually had to start setting up alongside the hotel team while the previous event was still being cleared.
Even when guests started arriving the next morning, the entrance setup was still incomplete, which was quite embarrassing for us as the hosts. The bride and I, as the bride’s sister, had a very stressful night dealing with last-minute arrangements, which also meant we got ready late the next morning!
The breakfast was another concern. The chutney had gone bad, and several guests brought this to our attention. It was immediately replaced after we informed the team, which we appreciate. The poori was also extremely hard.
More seriously, the bathtub in my room was unstable and actually came off when my sister stepped into it. Thankfully, she wasn’t injured, but it was genuinely frightening to think about what could have happened, especially right before her engagement. This is something we believe should never happen in a 5-star property.
We do appreciate the service provided by the team during the function. The F&B Manager, John, and Vasanth from the Banquets team spoke to us the following morning and apologised for the issues.
However, the apologies do not change the experience we had. What was particularly disappointing was that no one from the hotel has followed up with us since to apologise or even check on our overall experience!!
When we first visited Merlis, we actually loved the property so much that we had considered hosting our other family events there as well. But after this experience, I doubt whether our family would feel comfortable returning!!
For a property charging premium, 5-star rates, we genuinely expected much better attention to detail, safety and customer service. The property itself has a lot going for it, but unfortunately, our overall experience during such an important family occasion fell far short of what we expected!!
