Property in Thanjavur that offers great value for money

After exploring the best options to stay at a temple city like Thanjavur, we zeroed in on Sangam Hotel based on the amenities and excellent reviews from guests.
Booked via an online portal. Unfortunately, we had to reschedule the check-in due to personal reasons, reached out to the hotel contact (Mr. Manekshaw Sahadevan), he was kind enough to reschedule the dates without any extra charges or any hassles. This came through as a good gesture from hotel side even before check in.
We drove from Chennai and reached a bit earlier than check-in time. On arrival, we were welcomed at the reception by Ms. Vijayalakshmi and staff and were allotted a good room to stay. Check in was pretty quick and smooth.
Property is not a new one but well maintained. Room was quite comfortable, especially the quality and comfort of the mattress was very good.
Morning breakfast was served at the restaurant ‘Thillana’. They have musical themed restaurants named Thillana, Shruti and Layam. Our expectations on food quality is generally on the higher side, but should say that the breakfast spread, and taste was good and satisfying. Food was being refilled till closing hours of breakfast.
We also tried dinner and lunch at Thillana and they did not fail to impress us even though the menu was limited due to shortage in commercial gas supply. Mr. Bharathiraja did a great job with his service in giving us suggestions from the menu and was very well mannered.
The property has a pool with clean water. Myself and kids had a great time at the pool as it was relatively free without crowd on both the days. Only limitation was they they had a summer camp running for children of non-guests in morning and evening for few hours. Fortunately, this did not impact our schedule thought. Pool size is well served for kids and adults alike (with maximum depth being 5.4 ft)
Location is very near Periya kovil and other places of interest.
Staffs in general are very warm and friendly.
Property has good parking space which worked well for us.
Overall a great place to stay in Thanjavur if you are planning one.

Clean Rooms and Great Art Can't Hide Poor Management

We stayed here because of the location near the Big Temple, and while the building is nice and the rooms are clean, the service was a total letdown. We told them we’d be there at 1 PM, but the room wasn’t ready and the manager/receptionists didn’t even seem to care—actually, they seemed annoyed that we were even asking for an update.
The room itself (Deluxe) was spacious and the bed was comfortable, but our view was half-pool, half-noisy AC units. The worst part was the noise. There was a corporate party blasting music until 11 PM and management did nothing to stop it, despite us asking. It felt like they only cared about the party revenue, not the guests. The lobby was also a mess because of a political event. Breakfast was good, but the staff looked stressed and tense with each other. Honestly, even though the art on the walls is beautiful and the place is clean, I wouldn't recommend it. The management just doesn't have any empathy for guests.

Functional, centrally located, and supported by courteous staff. What stood out, however, was the choice of music played throughout the property - it was entirely Western. In a place like Thanjavur, where visitors often come to experience the richness of local culture, incorporating regional elements would make a meaningful difference. Even a selection of Tamil devotional music could have enhanced the atmosphere, especially given the abundance of beautiful compositions from the Tamil heartland.
