LOCATION:
If I remember it correctly, it's in New Udaipur. It's kind of on a traffic
As it were on a traffic island, as the traffic runs around it, you can hear the traffic accordingly. A typical supermarket we could find in about 15 minutes walking distance. Otherwise around it residential development. The river is within walking distance.
AMENITIES/SERVICE:
Unlike usual, I could keep this review very short as it would be easier and shorter to write what was good about this hotel – than what was so bad. To be fair, I'll do it in detail as usual: The house and the rooms are old and very worn down, and the one where the hotel probably only opened in 2018. Funnily enough, the pictures of the news reports at the time do not show the real house as it stands, where it stands, but as a photomontage; they have released it and the ramp in front is not visible. In reality, it is not free and the access is not at ground level.
The public areas and rooms themselves are too little and too consistently cleaned. From the coffee cup to the toilet lid holder – everything is contaminated to dirty. At a fellow passenger there was even a living mouse in the bathroom. She had wanted to hide in a bucket there. The pleated/folded roller blind in the “lobby area” was totally dirty and dusty, in some folds there were even dead mosquitoes. And on the outside of the facade, the hotel letters are already falling off (see photo).
And the food (we had booked half board) was let's say "country typical functional". No coffee machine or tea making facilities. The employee runs into the kitchen every time and mixes an instant coffee. Very manageable beverage selection. Service-wise, the staff was overwhelmed, not really attuned to European guests and their sensitivities, but nevertheless tried very hard somewhere. Only one manager spoke English. Complaints were reacted to stoically calmly or visibly overwhelmed.
Defective switches, sockets, lamps,...etc. And so on. Stains on pillows and sheets. Duvet no longer the latest. I used a towel as a base for my head on the pillow. The bathroom door in my room could not be closed because the door had warped. No wonder if the rigid shower head is mounted centrally on the wall in the bathroom and moistens everything in the bathroom when turned on. Installing this so firmly would not have been necessary, as there would be enough space for a corner shower. One of the fellow passengers even had the control lever of the shower in his hand on the first use. It all seems to be falling apart so slowly.
House overall noisy, water rushing when showered. All rooms of our tour group had complaints about cleanliness and hot water. Hot water was generally a problem. And the whole house has to share an old hair dryer. I would have to consider myself lucky that I got one of the few rooms with windows. Because not all rooms have one. Actually. Because my window did not close properly or it was drafty. In conjunction with the large gap under the room door, there was a virtually constant draft in the room. The window pane was heavily soiled and not sound-insulating. In front of it, loud-grumbling pigeons kept resting. The window itself could not be easily reached, as the bed with the high bed head was placed directly in front of it. Overall, the room was rather functional.
Oh, yeah. What was positive? Hmm.. the TV worked, there is free internet that was okay from the bandwidth but not always stable. And there's a little elevator.
CONCLUSION:
Well, actually, the house needs an overhaul. It was not only me who found this annoying. After all, it was booked through a well-known German organizer who works on site with an operator who presents himself as a well-known and quality leader. To offer this as accommodation to German guests on an expensive round trip was an imposition. The fact that no more acceptable 3-star hotel could be found for a small group of six people does not speak for the local operator “Le passage to India”. This showed how important quality management is. That it is important that the hotel buyer regularly inspects the properties, and that one can understand and anticipate German/Western European standards, sensitivities and expectations. If I were a backpacker with the right budget and expectations, it would be something else. But booking us in a 20 to 25 EUR a night location, that can not end well. Apart from us, there were only local guests. Except for one other mountain & sea tour group from Austria. Confirmatively, the first thing they asked us at dinner was: “Say, are your rooms that bad?” Just check out my photos and other reviews. Feel free to contact your tour operators if they have chosen this hotel for your tour. Those who are insensitive and/or on a tight budget can freely decide whether to book in.
The hotel did not convince me and left a mostly negative impression. Good thing we were out all the time, and only for dinner and sleeping in the hotel. I wouldn't stop back there, by the way, also because of the remote location to the main sights. I wouldn't recommend it to a friend or acquaintance either. If you have little money and are not sensitive, just need a place to sleep, you can safely rent here.
