Stay with the family...

The Zirbenhof is a very authentic farmstay with a wonderful family as your hosts! The view over to the 'Top of Austria' is spectacular! The owner is a teacher and a farmer who also likes to get into some music and plays various instruments...

Stay here and enjoy the views and hospitality

I cannot recommend this accommodation enough. The credit goes to owners themselves at the first point as they are very nice family and you will definitely feel very welcome in their beautiful house. A big thank you goes to Robert, Barbara and their parents for their attitude, they were really great and made our stay under Grossglockner very memorable. Moreover, they advise us on good hikes, showed us beautiful surroundings around their home and our kids enjoyed animals which the owners take care of.
Location of the accommodation is also perfect. Actually, it is located further from the center of the village itself but we took it as a plus as it was quiet there and it is actually nearer to get up to the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe visitor´s center than it would be from Heiligenblut.

Deeply enjoyable - one of the best ever

You can enjoy at least three levels of engagement with the Zirbenhof.
As a hotel your traditionally furnished room in this 200 year old mountain farmhouse high on the side of the Moelltal offers you breathtaking views over the mighty Grossglockener (Austria's highest) and Heiligenblut. You can see and hear the Jungfernsprung waterfall thundering down the mountain opposite. That evening you can eat delicious Austrian specialities in the historic dining room. And the next day you can hike the challenging but exquisitely beautiful pathways of the high Alps.
Then, you can add an understanding of how this fourth generation Alpine farming family thrives in the modern world, blending traditional values and relentless hard work with modern technology - from webcam to solar panels to wifi everywhere to thorough eco practices.
And then in the 'Stube' of an evening, after Edith and Oma have treated you to delicious slow cooked home grown venison, you can explore the issues of the world with the articulate and widely read Johannes and his talented family - Robert (ski champion, carpenter and now studying to be a surgeon) and the ever hospitable Barbara (also now studying medicine).
We booked for four nights and stayed for ten (moving into the nearby brilliant Zirbenhaus apartment) and rate our holiday in Schachnern among the best we have ever spent.
And came away with new hope for the future.

Super schön

Wir haben tolle Tage auf dem zirbenhof verbracht. Super nette Gastgeber,schöne,saubere Zimmer,leckeres Essen,tolle Umgebung,was will man mehr. Werden sicherlich wiederkommen. Auch ein schöner Nebeneffekt wenn man dort ist: durch die Lage des Hofes ist ein Ticket für die Alpenstrasse inklusive.

Immer wieder, nirgends fühlen wir uns so wohl und heimisch

In 2011 waren wir das erste Mal da und es hat uns so gut gefallen, daß wir jetzt schon das zweite Mal da waren und auf jeden Fall immer wieder kommen werden. Die gemütliche Ferienwohnung, der wunderbare Familienanschluß und die hervorragende Hausmannskost machen den Aufenthalt auf dem Zirbenhof immer wieder zu einem Erlebnis, gerade für Familien mit Kindern. Gemütlichkeit, Ruhe und Erholung werden hier großgeschrieben. Man sitzt halt in der großen Stube zusammen wie eine große Familie und ist per du.
