Escape from the outside world
Have stayed here a few times and it really does offer a great escape from the hustle and bustle of day to day living. Bedrooms are simply furnished and a bit dated but a good size and clean, everything in the bathroom works.
Restaurant offers a good range of local food as well as fresh trout from their own pool. Great indoor and outdoor space and if the weather is nice the views of the mountains are fantastic.
Hinterriss, Eng and Karwendel Park offer some wonderful walks which for a reasonably fit person will give you 3 or 4 days of great walking or mountain biking with some interesting huts at the top of many of the walks. Certainly recommend Plumsjoch, Lammsjoch hustle and Falconhutte, (currently closed due to extensive renovation).
WiFi a bit slow in some areas of the hotel but if you are getting away from it all who cares?

Lunch in the sun
On a tour round of the region we came by Kochel am See, we know this place because we stopped nearby on our way to Mittenwald the first time we holidayed in Upper Bavaria. We only stopped for lunch so cannot comment on the hotel itself. A very simple light lunch of salads with schnitzel for me and pommes. This place (never know whether to say village or small town) is on a lovely quieter scenic route from Munich down to Mittenwald and on to Innsbruck. It goes past two big Sees (lakes) with plenty of parking areas and places to stop for refreshments/breaks. if you're traveling down that way try it.

Nice but......
A lovley trip to the hinterriss brought us to this hotel bei accident.
From the outside it has that typical austrian look.
Staff was very helpfull and the food was cooked very well too.
Only problem was the room...very small and very datet....seventies springs to mind.
Mattrasses where well worn in..saggy.
For when you charge 100 euros a night I seen much better value for money in Austria

Mountain Views very Scenic
Hinterriss is a scenic quiet place with amazing views. The post was just what I expected set in the alps. Clean, efficient, nice out door beer garden and very accomodating staff/family. Breakfast was great the best liverwurst I have ever had. Offers many varieties for lunch and dinner he actually has his own trout farm and serves wild game.
Offer internet in lobby for .50 Euro ,unlimited time that was nice.
2nd Floor Front of house - has Balcony with view of mountains, and good for smokers.
If you only speak english the son of the owner is fluent, quite helpful.

Only ones there.
My father and I stayed at this hotel in early November 2011. When we arrived there were signs indicating it was closed. After no response at the front door, we walked around the back of the hotel and found an open door. There was no-one around, so I phoned the hotel and asked for someone to come to reception.
We were quite obviously the only ones staing there, but that didn't mean the hospitality was lacking. We ordered dinner from a limited menu which was basic and hearty fare. Absolutely delicious with a fabulous wine to go with it.
The internet required a cable which was provided on request.
The rooms were spacious and very clean. Comfortable and had a very good sleep.
The location was why I chose this hotel as it was close to the geological site we were visiting.
I would stay again but in the on season!
