Good value apartment
The good:
- Bus stop right outside
- Shop/small supermarket close by in either direction
- Fairly tidy and clean.
- Loads of storage space
- Nice little alcove area upstairs for kids to play in
- Two toilets (one shower/bathroom and one upstairs toilet)
- Has got a (small) dishwasher, oven, hob, fridge/freezer and basic pans/utensils/cutlery etc
- We reported a few issues and the owner was helpful in solving the problems.
The not so great:
- Some bits a little tired looking, and really needs somebody to run around with a 'snagging list'; lots of little things that weren't necessarily huge problems and wouldn't put me off staying here - for example; fridge door not closing properly; shower head not staying upright; temperamental hob; toilet door not locking; missing blinds from velux windows (in bedroom - fixed with a pizza box!).
- Location is a way outside the centre of town. If you are a group of adults this will be less of a problem but with younger kids it's a pain. The buses go on various routes and the signs on the front of them seem to bear little resemblance to what Google Maps tells you is their destination (we resorted to then flagging down every bus, showing where we wanted to go on a map and saying 'do you go here?', presumably to the annoyance of every other passenger!!).
- Also, this particular apartment is unfortunately located basically adjacent to the main road (I suspect the other apartments may be a little further away), though on the top floor. When we visited, over UK February Half Term (last week of Warsaw holidays, apparently, also) this was essentially nose-to-tail almost 24/7. So you really don't want to keep the window open!! Huge amounts of diesel and petrol fumes and combined with the coal that people seem to still burn here really adds to a lack of fresh air. This isn't really a criticism of the apartment, more its location, and the fact that Zakopane really doesn't seem to have managed to deal with its very obvious 'car problem' (presumably at least partly made by people visiting just for the day).
I say all the above to give a full and honest review. I don't regret staying here - we had a good time - and the apartment was very good value, and fine for our needs.
